But I'm finally up-to-date on all my blog reading. Which means I've gotten on track for the Mother's Day challenge. In fact, I've asked my readers to get involved and I'm looking forward to spreading the word about these great causes.

Thanks for the motivation to do something positive for the women of the world.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens up. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are

Good questions

1) A few times a week, for now. If we feel like these are really popular, we may expand that.

2) The From the 'hood editor will be looking for great posts, posts that she thinks the community would be interested in, posts that meet our community guidelines and she'll be following a futures calendar and publishing schedule (as all of our editors do.)

3) There will be a complete teaser.

Keep the questions coming!

I love it! And a few questions

1. How often will you publish these teasers?

2. Any criteria or is the editor free to choose?

3. Will it be a complete teaser - just "from the 'hood" title and not the title of the post itself?

change there surrondings

Yes that would be a nice idea, to change surrondings but could be impractical. For example my husband lived in northern Wisconsin. Job security and deep family roots kept the family there. Diverse it is not. But getting up and leaving for a more diverse community was not an option. Shows like above mentioned could have helped him alot.

"What's a parent to do?"

I am not sure I understand the dilemma. If folks really wanted to teach their children about diversity and lament the lack of diversity in their surroundings, it would seem the best thing to do is to...change their surroundings.

In the case of parents who are at least middle class, by choosing to live where there is not diversity and by not making their friendship circle diverse they are modeling that diversity is not a value or priority, and no amount of TV will compensate for that.

I agree with you: "Nothing replaces the human interaction and relationships that are important to helping children understand cultural differences."

great topic

Everything in moderation I say. I do use the tv as a teaching tool. My kids point and repeat all sorts of great info. High fives and cheers follow. But Nothing beats real world experience that is for sure. The TV is also great to see what to teach my children too, what benchmarks they need to reach. Noggin at the begining tell what skills or learning tools each show provides.

OK, I'm a day late AND I lifted a lot of my post from here -- but I've got the widget and am doing my part to spread the word. Thank you for reminding me that my little corner of the world isn't so bad, and giving us an easy opportunity to improve the lives of others.

Denise, I blogged it, I tweeted it, I donated, and I'll blog again tomorrow ... but it seems like so little in the face of such huge issues.

Projects like this are amazing;a great use of blogger (time and talent) resources!
