I don't watch awards shows much, but I do watch the highlights on entertainment shows sometimes. I haven't seen any of the movies nominated this year, so I don't know which actors or movies to root for!

How Could I Possibly Forget The Most Important Thank You!?

I'd also like to thank the most important person in my life, the person who keeps me grounded, the person who fixes my html, the person who corrects my bad formatting and the person who keeps me in the BlogHer email loop...Sniff, sniff...

....Denise Tanton! (Insert applause)

It'll do you good to watch some crass pop culture like the rest of us and get to know some current celebs. You never know, some of them might actually entertain you!

Hmph, you've hurt my feelings! hahaha.

Something tells me some of those awards shows are actually going to be playing on my TV and that hasn't happened in 15 years or so. I hope I recognize someone, anyone - I'm becoming culturally illiterate!

Very Interesting, Jim

I knew about Bette Davis and the Hollywood Canteen, but I didn't know about her going on tour with black performers.

For those of you who may not know, the Buffalo Soldiers were originally part of the US Army during the days of the Wild West and "were charged with and responsible for escorting settlers, cattle herds, and railroad crews."

You can read more about them at Buffalo Soldiers.com.

I found the stuff about

I found the stuff about Bette Davis inspiring. I was assigned to the 317th Engineer Battalion when I was stationed in Germany in the mid 80s. At one point we were going to name our streets after winners of the Silver Star (or higher medals) so I researched the unit's history extensively and it was originally raised in the early 40s as (what was then known as) part of a buffalo regiment.

Just how I felt

when I was writing the political list.

This is a fantastic roundup, Megan! I really love this post :)

And I have one more name to offer you - Julie Dash the director of Daughters of the Dust which was the first feature film directed by an African American woman in the U.S.

From Wikipedia:

In 2004, Daughters of the Dust was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
