Thank you for writing about this important issue. When my child was diagnosed with ADHD at an early age, I began researching causes, and was devestated when I found out many of the products I had brought into my home were toxic and could cause all kinds of health problems. I am currently working on a website, Positively Natural, to organize and share all the things I have learned.

Circus Class

Our youngest takes circus classes and she learned to juggle there. It wasn't her favorite part of circus class, which I thought was crazy - it would be awesome to be able to juggle 15 flaming bowling pins!

~Denise BlogHer Community Manager
Flamingo House Happenings

Speaking of media...

This a very interesting and thought provoking post. Thanks for writing it. Speaking of media, have you ever noticed that the "doctors" and "medical advisers" on news programs are usually white and male?

Even the advertisements we see on t.v. feature white, male "doctors." I'm watching one right now as I write this comment. It's a commercial for an aspirin product. Not one female or person of color in the background, either.

The solution perhaps begins with posts such as yours. Very imformative and thanks for sharing the story of people such as Concha Gomez. Had I not read your post today, I never would have known...

Well, There Is The Media and Then The Realilty

If the media reflects through tv commercials, movies and other media that "scientists" are not people of color it would be easy to come to the conclusion that none exisit.

If teachers in the classroom do not have the resources or education to know that is not the case then that is part of the problem on why POC young people do not believe there have been contributions.

Interesting. It might

Interesting. It might appear to the outside world that most scientists are white, but here, in Australia, I don't see it. The scientific agencies I've worked for have been among the most culturally diverse. My science classes at university were as well. In many places I've worked, in the 'hard' sciences (hydrogeology, hydrology and geology) white scientists have been the minority.

We don't see a lot of indigenous scientists though.

Thanks for your post

I think I have a recipe for that...

that first link to the article on Punctuation Promiscuity has an extra "h" in the "http" bit so it does not work. :)

Thank You

Janet~ Thank you so much for your response. I love getting feedback from my blogs. I enjoyed looking over your website. i loved the listening section! What a great website. I am always so impressed to see personal websites that just stand out.

I currently work at an Assisted Living and we focus on a new music genre every month. I think you are right on the lifetime connection people have with music.

Thanks for the response.

Have a wonderful day! Kim

Isn't it interesting the way

Isn't it interesting the way the brain works in conjunction with the senses? Part of my business is providing Music Wellness sessions in memory care facilities. A song such as 'Londonderry Air (Oh Danny Boy)' truly ignites the memories of the people. Not only do they remember the words and sing along, hum along and/or move to the music, they share stories and memories that the song brings up for them. For more information, check out my site http://www.janetroper.com/wellness.htm.

Thanks for sharing your interesting post.
