Oooo, I did this all the time when I was pregnant for my second daughter. Your blog makes me think I'll begin again to bake bread from scratchl

I know that for modern bread machines they "recommend" that you buy BREAD MACHINE FLOUR and BREAD MACHINE YEAST....pains in the butt if you ask me. But maybe you should break that baby out and try it again! Warm bread is just the best thing.

I Make My Own Yogurt Too!

My son has some for breakfast every morning. I don't care for it myself, but it's great in Indian cooking (my favorite ethnic cuisine)!

I used to be scared of baking bread.

It seems like one of those kitchen alchemy things, like souffles, that only turn out right with years of practice.

Souffles turned out not to be too hard, so I've experimented with bread - naan is crazy easy. I've made cheesy breadsticks too. But then I realised, um, we don't actually eat a lot of bread. I have three loaves in the freezer, for emergency. But for us it honestly isn't worth the effort.

Making my own yoghurt, however, completely rocks my world.

Thanks for your post!

I think I have a recipe for that...

You can freeze the packets

You can freeze the packets of yeast. Yes, some will die off, but once you proof the yeast (important step) you will know definitely that it is ok.

I do have a bread machine but... errr... do you really have to buy special ingredients to make bread in a bread machine?

I have actually only used mine half dozen times in the 15 years I've had it and don't actually remember how to use it. (TW does use it now, but I have no idea how she uses it.)

This just reminded me how close the holidays are. We will be going to Grand Turk over christmas and I am dragging my feet to buy tickets since I think they will only become even cheaper :)

I usually check for flights at orbitz.com, any other suggestions ?

Thanks, Julie

It all depends on what you're looking for

There are a handful of stores and sites that I comb regularly looking for bargains.

For shoes I love the following sites:

www.zappos.com - their customer service is insanely good. 365 day return policy

www.endless.com - free shipping, 365 return policy

www.6pm.com - this is Zappos overstock site. You can get some AWESOMe deals

For costume jewelry I recommend the following sites:

www.forever21.com - I know, I know, I KNOW but the jewerly is really cute

www.babygirlboutique.com - they have beautiful vintage reproduction pieces

www.evesaddiction.com - great "knock-off" style jewelry.

As for clothes I love the following stores (this is totally my taste take it for what it is)

www.anthropologie.com - it is pricey but there sales are really good

www.pinupgirlclothing.com - vintage reproduction at its finest

www.bananarepublic.com - they have constant online sales

www.oldnavy.com - they sell stuff on their site that they don't sell in the stores. So I check the site and don't bother with the store anymore

I have more but I can't think.

If you need any help let me know. It's what I do for a living!

I was just looking at that Glitzs.com site and it's cool, but what the heck is up with that HORRIBLE video of that woman that keeps popping up at the bottom? I can't make her stop, it's the dumbest thing I've ever seen a site do!

I'm going to checkout the shoe sites as well - thanks again!!!

Some Purses and Jewelry Stores I Like

Both Ebags and Ice.com are great stores! Ice.com also sells some of their items on Amazon, so if you use rewards programs and choose to cash out into Amazon GCs instead of receiving a check or PayPal, you can use those to pay for Ice on Amazon purchases.

There are also almost always coupons out for both stores. Ebags' is usually in the form of a coupon link (you'll need to find one of their affiliates, like a coupon code website or a shopping rewards program). Ice.com is usually a code that you enter in -- you may want to sign up for their email newsletter because they send them by mail.

I bought a tanzanite necklace from Ice earlier this year and it was just as beautiful in person as it was on the site...prettier, maybe. And they package their items very nicely, making you feel special. ;)

Another site I've found for jewelry is called Glitzs.com (Glitz with an extra S, hehe). They have a huge selection of beautiful jewelry in all price ranges. I bought some Tiffany style flower earrings there this spring and they are gorgeous! They're another site that packages your jewelry very nicely (can't remember if it was a velvet bag or a box).

If you're looking for cheap sterling silver jewelry, I like a site called SilverJewelryClub.com. They put up 4 deals at a time and the items stay on for a few minutes before being replaced with the next set of deals. They have a button you can click to see what's coming up next. The jewelry is $6.99 per item, shipped. Some of it looks less than impressive, but just keep watching and you'll find something you like or at least something that would make a passable gift!

The big online shoe stores also sell purses and ship 'em for free: Zappos, Shoes.com, and Shoebuy.com. There are often coupon codes out for them, too (I notice Shoebuy.com has a 20% off coupon posted on their site right now!). And remember to go through a rewards program for 10-20% cash back on those stores, too!

Any other specific websites to recommend?

I don't know why, but I'm becoming facinated with fashion this last month. A friend turned me on to ebags.com for purses and ice.com for jewelry, and I've loved looking through both... thinking of buying something soon.

What other sites are good? Or do you even think those are?

Thanks for your tips!

Goodwill is one of the best untapped markets by fashionistas. When I do public speaking gigs I tell people all the time to go to the older parts of the county or the wealthest parts of the county. A girlfriend of mine once got a Hermes handbag (that was IN season) for $10. That's a B-A-R-G-A-I-N

Thanks again for your adds!!

Great Post -- a Few Tips of My Own to Add!

Hi, Glinda! I enjoyed your post and have a few other tips to add:

1. Check out the Goodwill Store in the oldest part of town. First, you have to get over the stigma of "Oh my gosh, those are USED clothes!" So? You're going to wash them or have them dry cleaned before you wear them! You can often find expensive name brand clothing in pristine condition (sometimes new with tags!) that you might not otherwise be able to afford. Vintage clothing is hip, too. Why "the oldest part of town"? Because old people live there. They have money to buy nice clothes. And old people don't have garage sales; they donate to Good Will. :) The last two winters, I've bought nice wool blazers from Good Will instead of a coat (I live in south Louisiana so I can get away with just a nice blazer in the winter). Each blazer cost around $7. New, they would've been 10 times that...or more!

2. When you know your size -- or even if you're not sure -- don't just shop online! Go through an online shopping rewards program like Ebates, MrRebates, or QuickRewards.net first and click through their link to your preferred merchant. They'll give you coupon codes to bring your cost down, AND they'll give you an additional percentage cash back rebate on your purchase! No annoying forms to fill out or receipts to mail in; simply by signing up to these programs and clicking through to your favorite merchant from THEIR link to the store qualifies you for the cash back. And some of the coupon codes they provide will help get your bill down quite a bit -- like 20% off your total, $15 off a $50 purchase, or free shipping on a certain total order.

3. There are some great shoe stores online that offer free shipping AND if the shoe doesn't fit or you don't like it...return shipping's free, too! Zappos and ShoeBuy come to mind. There are some other stores that will allow you to return the item to your local store if it doesn't fit (Kohls is one).

4. And if you're in-store, inspecting items for pulls, broken zippers, etc., if it's something you think you can fix, like replacing a button or removing a minor stain, don't be afraid to ask a manager to give you an additional discount on the item. They will do it!

Enjoyed your post, Glinda -- look forward to reading more!
