I quit drinking a little more than 9 years ago after 12 years of drinking. It was not an easy road but I did it. I walked away from all the people who still drank and just changed my life. Yes we do recover.

It's bothersome how African American women are often portrayed. I agree with Kimberly that companies need to actively reach out to us. I too went to the Disney Mixer and was encouraged that a large company with such a prominent brand would take the time to speak with us directly. It will be interesting to see what direction other companies take.

It will be interesting to see if marketers perception and representation of African-American moms change based on the President-elect's family.

I've been ecnouraged to see that several companies already see the wisdom of getting Black mom's input (i.e. recently I attended a Disney Mom Blogger Mixer for African American moms/ earlier this year I was able to participate in the BlogHer Business panel "We Don't Know What To Do With You", etc.). I'm eager to see more of this happening in the future.

I've got an 11 month old who will be one in just 7 short days and I lost my job this year with no future job yet popping up to take me under it's wing...

So true. We are all struggling in every which way. My husband and I were doing much better 10 years ago then we are now. It just doesn't seem to add up. Should be the other way around, you think? Not with this economy.

I always considered myself a full-time mom and housewife with a full-time job outside of home. With the prices of food, gas, oil, I feel the need of going out working two jobs just to keep up with the high rise of food cost. Winter season will be here shortly, and filling our oil tank will cost about $1000.00, that'll last about a month in a half with a 6 month long winiter, unless with keep our thermostat down to 59 degrees like we did last year. I don't know about everybody else, but 59 degrees in a house is coooolllld in winter time.

Something has to give soon......

Great post. Send it directly to the president. He seems to decide who gets bailed out. And you didn't even make it really bad, risky decisions to be in such a place. Seems to me, you deserve to be bailed out more than they do!
