understanding the others ways

Yes like our ex prime minister refusing to apologise to the stolen generation...Appalling and remarkably thoughtless and cruel......... Let alone the intervention in these communities, under the guise of caring for the children in these communities and

even though Kevin our current Prime Minister has now apolgised the intervention continues.... White anglo saxon society has stolen their culture their land their language .... Hideous and it is the case the world over ... Imperalism is alive and well in one form or another.. it is just becoming more mobile and complex as people try to redefine where they are connected to "PLACE"

My husband son and haven't eaten meat in a while but we decided to buy free range turkeys for both Thanksgiving and Christmas as we'll be having meat eating family members over and our ban on meat has really more to do with the meat industry practices than feeling sympathy for animals (I have a bit of sympathy, my husband doesn't). We also thought it would be a way to support a local farm. Having said all that, please blog about your journey to Thanksgiving. I would definitely read it and am thinking about raising turkeys myself for next year's holidays. That journey to the holiday is a great thing to share with your kids.

Spend Wisely Texas - Living Well and Spending Less in Texas

Happy Thanksgiving!

I agree that Thanksgiving is the forgotten holiday and I too am trying best not to let that happen. I have written a month long series about planning, preparing for and why you should have a Thanksgiving party (can be included in Thansgiving Dinner or not ) on my other blog http://www.weeklynicheideas.com.

Happy Thansgiving to All!

Elaine Hodges

@LRShops

http://littlerockshops.info

Thankful Everyday

This is such a great post! A few days ago I noticed that many of my friends have been doing a thankful Facebook status every day (I've been doing it on Twitter), so we each have reminder that there is a day, though it should be everyday, that we can be grateful for the things/life we have. Its best to put a positive spin on the complaints we have about life because especially in today's society so many are being forced to live without.

What am I thankful for? So many things that if I begin I may have to write a novel.

-Mary-
A Student for Life

But I'd be willing to try it. Here in San Francisco you can buy smoked oysters at Safeway, in tins next to the tuna and such.

New Englad Oyster Stuffing

I'm sad that this year I will not be with my side of the family to dig into Oyster stuffing. I will be with the in-laws and their traditions. While I'm curious about what they may be, it breaks my heart to think that I won't see my mother ever-so-NOT daintily dig into her stuffing:-(

Alyssa - those smoked oysters sound amazing. Where do you get those?

http://www.thecluelesscrafter.com/

Definitely the stuffing for me!

No, it wasn't organic, the in-laws all think we're eccentric, to put it nicely, with our food views. I'm also pretty sure that if they could buy the turkey in an aluminum can the rest of the meal, they would be jazzed. I make it a point to bring some really excellent organic, healthy food to our gatherings.

They're good people, they just have other things on their radar.

My mother's cooked about a billion turkeys, I'll have to ask her what it was.

I'm always afraid to swear on BlogHer, even when it's within context, because people do so well here keeping themselves in control even when a VERY heated debate is raging. But I can't really think of people knowingly poisoning my children (I'm looking at you, Dupont) without spewing a couple swear words!

You've had me thinking about NEXT YEAR'S Thanksgiving for the last two days! lol

By far stuffing is my favorite thing about Thanksgiving. I've never made it any other time of year (why not?) But it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it. I'm with you on the brussels sprouts, potatoes, and gravy too, but not sure about the oysters.

Kalyn Denny Kalyn's Kitchen

I can and have eaten whole meals of just stuffing. Probably not the healthiest thing to be doing, but I love the stuff. Thanksgiving just isn't Thanksgiving without stuffing. My brother's family always makes four varieties of stuffing each year, and one of them is their signature oyster stuffing. I can't stand the stuff. I like just about any stuffing that doesn't contain oysters or nuts though.

Mashed potatoes are great, as long as they aren't flavorless or tasting only of butter. My mashed potatoes usually end up overly laden with other ingredients, but that's how I like them. Sometimes I'll make them with bacon, cheese, green onions, ranch, and sour cream. Other times I'll do the whole garlic/herb thing.

My mom makes a great spiced apple cider, but she can only be conned into making it every few years. Maybe that's more of a Christmas thing than Thanksgiving for most families.

My husband insists on green bean casserole every year. Personally I'd rather have a broccoli and cauliflower casserole with cream cheese, garlic, and breadcrumbs.

Oysters crack me up - it's like Cliantro, people either love them or hate them! Definitely a testiment to sentiment - I don't think that I actually like the smoked oysters, they have serious texture problems. But we always have them, it's how I know it's Thanksgiving. Usually, RAW for me - and those I can't get enough of!

____________

Alyssa Royse

Just Cause It: A Web Site To Save The World

READ the magazine http://justcausemag.com
