The day Challenger exploded is one I won't ever forget. I was standing in a very dark, very crowded bottom floor room of the Ft Bragg Army Hospital trying to convince the powers that be to let me deliver my son at the civilian hospital (as I had done with my daughter 3 years before) rather than at the Army facility.

The TV was on in the corner. Kids were crying. Adults were cranky. It was hot, even though in there and I was annoyed with the entire process and circus that is military life. I wasn't watching TV at all. Suddenly the entire room got quiet. And then a collective gasp.
