Gunshots not firecrackers

Today I heard pop-pop-pop in the afternoon and it turned out it was a shooting. Guests who were coming to a small barbecue I gave said that there was police tape at the end of the street. A place that I walk by every other day.

Then tonight, people started setting off firecrackers and cherry bombs and I'm feeling like - what's up with the fascination with the sounds of war?

I am trying not to get paranoid but damn - is there no place safe? I live in a relatively cool, peaceful neighborhood. Because of this outdoor shooting, I am going to have to get my mind ready to feel okay about walking that way down the street. How many more circuitious routes can I take? What time of day will be safe to walk?

AAARRRGGGHHHH! God help us.

Good and plenty!
