I have an expensive blue

I have an expensive blue wool suit that's old, but that I love and always get compliments on. One spring I saw that there were 3 tiny holes up near the right shoulder. There was no way to mend them, so I bought 3 blue "jewels" from a craft store and super glued them over the holes. Everyone thinks the jacket came like that! I am not crafty at all - so was very proud of myself for saving a favorite outfit! :)

I swear by Avon's Glimmersticks Eyeliner. I have uniqely shaped lids that make everything else smudge and wear off in a matter of an hour or so. Glimmersticks don't. move. from. my. eyelid. They're lovely. I also have sensitive eyes, whether I'm wearing my contacts or not. Doesn't bother them a bit!

(And no, I'm not an Avon rep. I have no sales ability. Just love this eyeliner!)

Contacts first, then liner

My routine in the morning is this: pat on eye cream, apply primer to lids (I have oily skin, so this helps my makeup stick), liner, shadow (although most of the time I skip the liner and line my lid with shadow dipped in a very small angled brush), mascara.

I typically just put mascara on my top lashes, in part because, as you point out, drops can make it smear on the bottom. And I've changed to a brand of contacts that are specially made for dry eyes, which makes a HUGE difference (I also wear daily disposables, which helps as well).

And I am NOT advocating that anyone wear her contacts for 16 hours each day. Oh no. Just so we're clear. ;)

I have to wear hypo-allergenic mascara etc. and find there are few choices here in the UK apart from Clinique which is quite expensive. I save up my points at Boots and purchase it that way, every little bit helps. :)

Susan thanks! Thanks! Quick follow-up questions: Do you use the liner before or after wearing your contacts? Also, does using teardrops smudge it? I don't use contacts (or eyecream) as regularly, but I do get dry eyes....

Here's a request from a person with minimum experience in makeup -- but I do wear kohl once in a while: a post on eye makeup (especially liner) for people using contact lenses. Failed quite a few times. Either eye hurts or makeup smudges.

(I'm a little behind on my online reading)

1. I tried the white pencil trick, too, and felt like I looked like I was trying out for a spot on The Girls Next Door. Or trying to look like Christina Aguilera.

Then I read - in countless magazines - that makeup artists use a nude, not white, pencil for more natural results. So I searched for one, and found there was not a nude pencil to be found in any mall, Ulta, Sephora, Sally Beauty Supply and drugstore on the East Coast. So I finally dropped $16 on Pixi Eye Bright Liner No. 1 in Nude. Truth be told? It works. It's subtle, and I probably could live without it. But it does takes the edge off the redness that comes with extra sleepy-looking eyes. It'll last forever, too, because I don't use it everyday - only on days where I'm looking like I attempted to party like Kendra, Holly, and Bridget the night before.

And I enthusiastically second the Laura Mercier concealer. I use the Undercover Pot (the one with two types of concealer and a little bit of setting powder). Dropping that much on concealer makes me cringe, but when I use it I'm downright amazed at the results. It conceals without that chalky "hey, look at me wearing concealer!" look - that alone makes it worth the price. (I've invested in it twice, now.)

(And for what it's worth, I'm 37. I've had that long to road test bad concealers and such.)

Blinc Kiss Me is the best Mascara. Ever. Hands down. Pricy to be sure, but never runs, never drips. From our perspective, at bitchesonabudget.com, it's one of those items worth saving for a splurge!
