I know what you mean about multiple voices

I am a geek by day, and some of my sentences would probably make you throw up, not just cringe. ("Lossy" is an accepted term to describe some database transactions.) At the same time I love writing on both my blogs, which have quite different voices.

And now I'm looking at doing a Grad Dip in writing next year. When I spoke to the course coordinator, she asked what I'd like to write, and I don't really have an answer. On one hand, I think there's a need to clearly explain science and technology to the broader community, and I can see myself doing that. On the other, the real (sneaky) reason I'm considering it, is because I think I could be a writer. I love biography and I love collecting people's stories. But that feels completely impractical, and I have no backround in that at all. But I'm hoping that the process of studying will help me find a home for all these voices. And help me find one I can truly call mine.
