What are the Home Decor Trends?

Sadly, I'm not going to BlogHer. If I could, I'd ask," What does the Home Decorating/DIY deomographic want - posts about where or what to buy outright to create a well-decorated home or posts about here's how to make an item instead of buying it to create a well-deocrated home?"

I ask because I read that several home improvement/decor shows say that their auidneces are trending away from wanting to know how to make/DIY the items that decorate their homes. Now auidiences are more interested in how to get the look they want by buying the items from a big box store. With the economy the way that it is I thought auidences would be more inclined to seek out more DIY blogs than DI-buy blogs.

Why don't decorating and DIY projects always work out like they do on TV? Condo Blues http://condo-blues.blogspot.com/

Your slaw prep looks tempting too. Good luck at salvaging the rest of your cabbages. Those darn pests sure ruin our enjoyment!

Blossoms are a good sign!

Don't give up on your tomato plants. Mine look poorly ugly by the beginning of August (see the leaf curl beginning to develop in the photo above? Yeah. That only gets worse). But it doesn't seem to effect the fruit. And blossoms are the first sign.

The plants should be able to deal with the outdoor weather (though they may take a while to adjust from their pampered pen).

Thanks for the mention Debra!

I'm hoping I can save the rest of our cabbages this evening--it seems I have a harlequin bug invasion on my hands!

Torturous

I've managed to keep all three tomato plants alive although two are quickly dying. While we were on vacation we had a serious aphid invasion that took over one plant completely and was doing well on the second. They were moved outside where they are not doing so well outside of their pampered pen. Ditto the herbs. But one tomato plant is still going well (it has blossoms...will it produce anything? We're doubtful) as is the jalapeno plant. The rosemary may be salvageable.

Thank goodness for farmer's markets.

The boy suggested that perhaps we not try to have an "indoor garden" next year but wait a few years until we bought a house and had a yard. He changed his mind after I shot him a look. Smart man. ;-)

Hi. I find your list to be just as true for me today as when my daughters were little. They are now 9 and 11. I hate to be a downer, but I am still struggling to find time to create. I work full time.

Good Advice I haven't taken

I'm thinking of posting your list on my fridge because it's all good advice that I never take. My youngest is now 5, so I am past that baby stage, but I am still sometimes so weighed down by the things I can't let go of (laundry, house messes, dinner) and the brain suckers! I blogged for the first time this weekend and let's see if your advice helps me to keep it going.

The temporary kitchen

Lived one summer with a temporary kitchen. It took over my studio/office. I cooked with a microwave, an electric frying pan and my ever faithful grill (propane, TYVM). Moving into the new kitchen was a very happy day!

LOL! When my parents moved into the house I grew up in they said every single room was GREEN. Not a nice green, but that ugly avocado green that was all the rage back then (1971). They couldn't paint over it fast enough!
