flexibility in schedule

I keep it simple by going for walks and not being to crazy with my schedule. Schedules add more stress for me if I don't allow flexibility!

PenPal

I keep in touch with a pen pal for over 15 years. We haven't met but she's very amazing and supportive. It's nice to know I have a friend halfway around the world and we learn from each other through letters. We keep the form of letterwriting alive and learn about each other's very different lifestyles. A letter each month is always so exciting!

Music time!

A great way to entertain kids that we adore is to have a dance party in between homework. Going crazy for 5 - 10 min to exciting music is a great break and they love it. Allows them to be creative and realize that while rules and schoolwork are necessary so is having a little fun :)

Unplugging all appliances

Part of my green routine is unplugging everything. My daughter was very adamant about this and it's stuck. I very happy to learn that it saves me money on the electric bill and is better for the enviroment!

Rocking Chair

Rocking chair - best invention ever. Helped out a lot with soothing a fussy baby. So did driving but that sometimes turned out to be overwhelming in the winter especially.

we like to read a lot in my

we like to read a lot in my house. The Library is the favorite place to go, well, second to the park. We also go on walks, rain or shine. The rain/puddle walks are actually the favorite. We talk, walk, jump in puddles, go home and take a bath (well the girls do, I will shower later) and drink hot chocolate in front of the heater talking about the big splash, the dog we saw etc. My oldest is only three, so any conversations we have are limited, but every day gettign more and more detailed. Also her speach is becoming more clear and I am sure to repeat what she said, especially the sounds she's still working on. (R's, L's and V's are problematic here) Nothing major, but fun, easy, and consistant. It's also great to be able to give each girl one on one attention, stories, walks, drives to the park. Nothing has to be big to make it a teaching/learning moment. Sorry for rambling, I've been up since 3:30 AM, it's almost nap time in my house!

White Noise Works For Us

Since our home is very small and we have two older sons, now 14 and 12, when our baby was born last year, it was quite difficult to find a quiet spot for him to relax and unwind. We purchased an alarm clock with nature sounds (rain, waves, babbling brook, etc) to play at night and during nap time so Owen has his own soothing oasis in our tiny home. Along with the soothing sound of the rain, Owen particularly enjoys when my husband gets home from work and he rocks and sings to him softly in Russian - works like a charm every night and is a special moment that only daddy and baby share.

Family Time Is So Important

I have a 10 yr old and a 3 yr old (boys), So it is very important for us to find a balance between the two that both will be interested in. (which sometimes can be a trial) We have found that playing with LEGO's is a great way to interact with both at the same time. I love the fact that they will color coordinate the blocks, discuss building plans and complete the project together.

We also enjoy playing the Nintendo Wii together, this opens so many oppurtunities. And it's a great way to spend family night!

West Texas dry skin!

We moved to west Texas in the summer of 2007. We had been living Florida and did not have dry skin problems. After a few week of living Texas my families skin became super dry. I tried all kind of products but the only thing that worked was Aquaphor. After I give my boys a bath I put Aquaphor on their backs, arms, and legs. My youngest son lickes his lips and chin so I also put Aquaphor on his chin to help with the chaped skin. I love Aquaphor!

My family gets Carded!

Yes, it's true- I'm a mom of 2 busy boys who love to "get carded" at the library. Their library cards have opened a new world to our free time- they use their cards to check out bags of books (everything from art projects to Star Wars), new DVDs, and even music c.d.s.
