Love it!

What a fun read! Admittedly, I'm a novice football fan, though I do love watching football and dithering about my fantasy lineup.

I'd never heard of a women's football league, but you can bet I'm going to read up.

Gives me something to do before the draft...

Favre, again

Yes, it's been frustrating being a Favre fan, but he certainly provides a lot of blog fodder!

Oh, yeah, and go Celtics! (Well, go Paul Pierce...)

Brett has now said he's not un-retiring. Phew. I was going to lose a lot of respect for him if he came back to play for the Vikes.

I vote that Manny was enhancing the performance not on the baseball field. I have no evidence to support that vote. It's just funnier.

I love that Serena Williams declared that everyone knows she's the real #1 in tennis and then promptly lost in the first round. I've always liked Venus so much more than Serena.

Now for what you missed: the 6 game win streak of the AL Central division leading Kansas City Royals. And the ridiculously sick start of the best pitcher in baseball, Zack Greinke. He's 6-0 with an ERA of 0.40. Royals fans haven't had much to brag about since 1985, so I have to take full advantage of my bragging material now.

Important topic

I never thought about how a woman can look athletic -or tough - and not look sexy. Or look sexy and not look athletic. I'd put those 3 photos together to get a full range of what a healthy, trained body looks body. Or I'd take the last photo - though I wish she were smiling just a little.

What is the goal?

Is it to be tough, look tough, or both?

In my view, appearances can be and are very deceiving, and people should not take appearance as a measure of another's inherent toughness.

Hockey equipment does get

Hockey equipment does get nasty. I've heard of people using the dishwasher for it, but honestly, I would never put my gear in there. The thought of it just grosses me out.

It helps if the equipment doesn't get left in the bag; take it out and hang it to dry. Leave it out of the bag until you need to use it. In the warmer months it hang it outside to air out. I've also seen people Febreeze their gear.

Didn't think of the dishwasher

Here I am scrubbing shin guards by hand! Last year when my son did hockey, I made him take a shower with all his equipment to clean it. He loved stomping on all the stuff. Of course you need to do this while there is a break in the season as it takes a few days for all of it to dry.

I LOVE that story of the basketball girls!

Glad to see you mentioned that Texas girls basketball game. I dearly loved that story! That, and my Cavs playing my Warriors on the day that Monta Ellis returns... made my sports weekend!

See? I commented on sports without even mentioning baseball! Yep, you're right. 2009 is going to be a great a sports year.

And--- GO STEELERS!

Now, more than ever, we have

Now, more than ever, we have to support women's sports. Clearly administrators will blame Title IX for schools' misdirected priorities (despite Brand's appeal not to use the mandate as a scapegoat for budget cuts). Let's make sure the economy isn't used as an excuse to excise women's sports (amateur and professional) from the athletic landscape. Stay informed. Stay strong.

I see my future -- and it is you!

I'm living the easy life right now. Only one kid in pee wee soccer, so only one practice and one game a week. Except for the tantrum Little Guy throws every week because he can't join Big Guy's team, it's a breeze.

Next year, it becomes complicated times two because there's no way Little Guy doesn't play once he's old enough. Which will, of course, mean another practice and, knowing my luck, games scheduled for the same starting time.

And I'll do it with only (minimal) griping for the same reason you do -- because the guys already love it. I've never seen anywhere else the look of pure rapture on Big Guy's face that I see when he's playing. He lives for practice and game days. Too early to tell if he's any good at it -- we're still at the stage where we're happy if they head toward the right goal -- but he sure does love it.

Oh, and where are the water bottles? They've usually run off with one of the socks.

Nice post!

Not Everything Has To Be Live

But it's really much more exciting when it is live. And though ping pong and badminton are not my thing, I wouldn't have minded NBC switching out a couple of nights of beach volleyball for some table tennis or some tennis court tennis.
