Boo! Hiss!

Like Marybeth, I'm a Mets fan. (And a Cubs Fan. Fat lot of good all that spending did for either of those teams, huh?) However, I am disgusted with the way the Yankees have robbed the people of New York City, particularly the Bronx, for their new stadium. I ranted about it at my blog today, but in short, the Yankees wanted a new stadium, they took one of the few public parks in the South Bronx to build it on, taxpayers gave them all sorts of financing, and the Yankees have yet to live up to their word that they will create new parks to replace the one they grabbed.

Note that the Bronx is the poorest urban county in the United States, and the South Bronx is the poorest neighborhood in the Bronx. Also, the Bronx has the highest obseity rates in NYC. So, seriously, who needs the park more? This is case of the wealthy and entitled stealing from the poor makes me so angry. So no, I am not celebrating a Yankees win because it was such a loss for so many people. Bah!

As a Mets fan, this was a tough year, World Series wise. However, what's getting me through is there's only 106 days til pitchers and catchers. And as someone pointed out, in the new season, my team is tied for first place:)

I'd say let's put Tamika Catchings and some Candace Parker in there (or a whole host of WNBA stars) as well...so he can get the full effect with emphasis.

Your are so right and in regard to all of it,,, As i said to you in my email to you you are not alone You actually sound exhausted and I am NOT surprised why ... I must say having spent time state side i was genuinely shocked in the USA at how aware of difference as opposed to sameness in the other was so prevelant and frankly exhausting to witness .... America is at stage of witnessing it's self and what it thinks the other is maybe !! We can but hope that the world will evolve

Also- I assume we'd play with a men's ball, not a women's ball. I mean, there are some 'practical' reasons you might not play co-ed. But if it's pickup games? Heck yes... time to lace up ladies.

Thanks for the nod. I loved this article by the way. I remember growing up and having friends who would say things like "My grandparents say racist things, but they aren't racist, they're just a product of their time" As if grandma and grandpa aren't able to evolve and control their tongue.

I also love that the Justice of the Peace kindly lets black people use his bathroom as proof of him not being racist.

It is amazing at what "I'm not racist, but..." can be used in this day and age.
