Regarding Google Wave

I was one of the early testers with Google Wave and have found that it serves two great purposes - inter-office collaboration and brainstorming. I use it for the later, myself. But as a complete mainstream "everyone-has-got-to-use-this" sort of tool, not so much.

Great article, by the way!

Renee Hendricks http://www.socialurl.com/reneehendricks

Ego Lessons

Thank you for taking the time to write this. I really enjoyed reading it. There is a lot here to think about in terms of egos and lessons. I will come back to hopefully read more from you. casino en ligne

I'm not as good as I hoped to be at this point. I do try to hear what has been said and what was really communicated.

I will have to begin studying your blog. I've always wanted to take a class on how to communicate with difficult people. Then again, I might be one of those people. ;-)

Thank you for your comment.

It IS all about me!

I read this post with so much interest because this is exactly what I've written about in my book "Understanding Other Peope: The Five Secrets to Human Behavior". Secret Number One is that "It's all about me". But, not that we are totally ego-centric and full of ourselves, rather that we can't help but view the world through our own lens -- a lens comprised of our needs, our background, our experiences, etc. To process info, we tend to "label" things and make quick decisions based upon what we know and what we would have done. It's so hard to be genuinely empathic when we don't even realize we are using our own lens. So, recognizing it is the first important step and then learning to be an "Interested Observer" is next -- genuine interest and curiosity about what other's really mean. It takes work!

I agree. And having to

I agree. And having to repeat ourselves is making the current multi-silo structure of existing social networks to be something of a pain. So you create your lists in Twitter. How do you translate that to lists in another network? I wish the lists could take in what I have on Tweetdeck, for example! (Maybe once Tweetdeck catches up on the new Twitter API?)

Ultimately I think peer-to-peer will be the most powerful solution.

Laura Scott, BlogHer Contributing Editor, Tech/Web
design, snap, blog, tweet

I'm still waiting for Google

I'm still waiting for Google Wave, although my husband's been playing with it. Like you said, it's hard to know what it'll be like when you don't know anyone else/hardly anyone else who's also on it.

Both my husband and I have Twitter Lists, and personally, I love it. It's a lot easier for me to track certain groups of people, like Sri Lankan Twitterers.I also like that I can add people to the list who I'm not following. I could, if I wanted to, make a general repository of all Sri Lankan tweeters who've tweeted at least once in the last month. Or I could do a general repository of all tweeters in the Colombo area only whether I follow them or not. I like that.

The thing I hate about groups features in Twitter apps is that, every time you try out a new app or switch to a different one, you have to set it up again. It doesn't help that I'm that person, the one who tries out a lot of different apps, switching back and forth sometimes until I find one that fits best. But Lists will be permanent. Once Lists are rolled out to everyone and implemented in Twitter apps, for me, it'll take over where Groups doesn't quite work for me. I'm tired of setting up groups after having done it a half dozen times. I want something more permanent.

Laurie in Sri Lanka

Chilli & Chocolate | A Canadian in King Parakramabahu's Court | LMAshton on Twitter

Now that my children are older, ages 9 and 13, there are some tricky challenges that accompany using all of this George Jetson technology. I recently told my kids that CD's did not exist when I was their age and I swear I think their heads exploded. I am looking forward to sharing some of my own tips and tricks as well as writing about the latest trends and news as it relates to parenting our kids in this age of uber information. www.parentopia.com/blog

My first child is due at Christmas (I'm a blimp!) and this is something I've been thinking about a lot. I think my first six months at home is going to be very different to my mother's.

We don't own a TV, but have two laptops that are on pretty much the whole time we are home. I'm wondering how that will change, and if we'll feel the need to get a tv when we have an active toddler.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing everybody's stories!
