Polaroid is one of a kind.

Thank you for these links! I love Polaroid film and still can't believe they've discontinued. I find that it's still possible to find the film at drugstores and other non-photo shops. Also, I have heard that Fuji is going to continue some Polaroid film but I don't know which.

I have two packs of film left, and have yet to determine which images are, to paraphrase Seinfeld, Polaroid-worthy.

I've been a member of the Save Polaroid group since day one! (Or something pretty close to it.) I have a few sets of polaroids on Flickr as well, this one being my favorite. One of my favorite polaroid cameras is a Pronto! -- a non-folding SX-70 camera from about thirty years ago. Paid a whopping $5 in a thrift a few years ago.

For those still using pack film cameras, Fuji still makes compatible film. I'm hoping they (or someone else) picks up the slack when it comes to integral film. (They have their Instax cameras and films, too, which I think are being offered in the US now. I'll have to check on that, though.)

Recent Flickr Convert.

Fascinating that facebook will "store four image sizes for each uploaded photo", how can I get to the higher quality pictures instead of downloading the sad 30 KB or less images?

I think that facebook pictures have been abused. The picture taking orgy it has spawned has led to hundreds of indiscriminate, repetitive pictures being uploade, documenting every little detail that may have been funny at the moment, but looks extremely posed afterwards.

I recently started using Flickr more to share my photos. Flickr is much more open, allowing more people to discover through search or sharing. Also, I find that Flickr's monthly limit (100 MB-decent) makes users think twice before uploading the 90 photos taken every 10 minutes at last night's party. The photos' on Flickr are of much more valuable because of the 'scarcity' and because they are better organized with tags and statistics.

I can see how Facebook may be better for those more into the "social" aspect of photo sharing though.

As for me, I'm importing my Flickr photostream into Facebook so everyone benefits. There's a bit of a lag (sometimes till the next day!) but I find it to be the best way for me to share.

ps- I only have 147 tagged pictures. =)

Just be careful

At my work, we look for potential job applicants on facebook. We're not stupid! Pictures of you in 80's fashion won't cause a problem, but drunk and disorderly pics might. Comments about drug use or other unsavoury behaviours can also cause red flags.

And if you're going to add yourself into your workplace network, make sure that your profile photo is fully dressed, and not making obscene gestures. (I wish I hadn't seen that one!)

And even deleting your facebook account will not erase comments you've made on others' photos, or walls.

Tagged to Me

There are many pictures (I think 144, at last count) on Facebook tagged to me, but none are anything that I would be too ashamed to show to anyone. Most of my pictures are of me hanging out with church friends at church-related activities. I'm one of those crazy people who likes to take my camera almost everywhere I go, and my friends know that once that camera comes out, any shot of them will likely hit Facebook, MySpace, and Flickr. I don't take the pictures to embarrass anyone, but more to show that we can have a good time, and so we remember that this night had its fun moments.

I hope there will be more

I hope there will be more bloggers or Chinese bloggers who can share with the rest of the world how the Chinese in China see, think, or feel. I know there are many Chinese brothers and sisters who live in many other countries. I also know that many of them are "more westernized than many western people." For example, some of the best bloggers who have helped share China with the West are Western people who live in China or travel to China often.

I also know many Chinese people in the West also do not like China or are ashamed of their brothers and sisters in China.

I hope everyone can better understand each other and why we are different but also the same. Many people do not agree on many things, but that is okay. I think the important thing is that people try to understand each other and understand that we are all people too.

Many people who are of Chinese descent, but were born and/or raised in the west have a western outlook in life. Are we included? Even if we're more westernized than many western people?
