Although I appreciate that it's usually the first thing you really register seeing in the morning, we took it beyond the fridge and painted a strip of magnetic primer in our nursery. This will allow us to post memories to our new additions wall that won't fit on the fridge!

Now I want to go camera happy although, in this age of digital photography, my trouble is not storing the pics in boxes as I don't tend to print many out anymore.

We Just Tidied Ours Up

And I hate it. I need more pictures and craziness. And artwork. And magnets that spell out naughty words. (What? We're the only adults that do that?)

I did leave up a picture from the newspaper of my husband fighting a fire, pictures of all three of my living children, the invitation to their party, the boys' newspaper clippings from their birthdays last year (to be replaced with their clippings from tomorrow and next Tuesday), their Christmas an Easter pictures, a few business cards, a picture of my best friend's son...

I guess there's still a lot there. I love having our life on the fridge door. Some people panic about fingerprints. I'd panic if there wasn't a billion and one things on our fridge door.

It strictly serves as an impetus for my colleague the Flyers fan to mock me daily. We'll see who's laughing in March. It had better be him. ;)

I love the kids-eye-view artwork. Also turkey worksheets. Ah, memories.

I'm sure there are other ways to brighten up the kitchen with personal things - a bulletin board or even that cool chalk paint. Some of the design blogs have that kind of inspiration for sure (incuding a few I linked in the post above.)

And one of the first things I do is scatter them about or put some of my favorite magnets on the refrigerator - it's a way for me to mark a space as soon as I get there.

I think it's important to feel at home as much as possible, and it doesn't take very much for that to happen. Good luck with the move!

I'm very glad that this is in the front page because it was a very well written piece. We are waiting to move into our first home, and I would love to have some of the feelings and ambiance that you are sharing with us. I want the memories to flow out, just by looking at some items in the house, and I know it might take years or just by unpacking boxes.
