Convention of the Rights of the Child

Thank you for your query. Yes, you are correct, the Convention of the Rights of the Child prohibits the recruitment of children under the age of 15. That is why after the Convention was originally introduced in 1989, the international community saw the need to do more to protect children. This became especially important as more and more children 15 years of age and older began to be recruited into armed groups. As a result, an additional provision, or "protocol," was added to the convention. The first Optional Protocol on the involvement of children in armed conflict came into force in 2002. It establishes 18 as the minimum age for compulsory recruitment and requires states to do everything they can to prevent individuals under the age of 18 from taking a direct part in hostilities. Also, in 2002 a second Optional Protocol on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography was added to the Convention. It provides states with detailed requirements to end the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

First of all, I love Steph

First of all, I love Steph at Change.org! She's fabulous!! Second..great list of AR organizations..and I totally get where cluelesscrafter is coming from. Even though I've been vegan for almost 4 years now, just watching someone else prep a chicken or steak makes my heart ache for the life that was lost and the torture it had to endure in order to finally find peace in death. It not only makes me sad for the animal in question, but the person as well..that they fail to feel the compassion towards the life that died for their taste buds.

"Silence gives consent."

The Innocent Primate Vegan Blog

http://innocentprimate.wordpress.com innocent.primate@gmail.com

The importance of ecotourism.

I have taken over the travel project and traveled so many places so I ouht to myself find the the importance of ecotourism definitely.

Ecotourism have become popular tourism sales pitches. In order to truly understand ecotourism and all of it's attendant pros and cons it is necessary to do some background research.

I'm not a lawyer, or even american

but I was told it was to do with the armed forces. The charter defines a child as somebody under 18 years of age, and the US allows people to sign up at 16 (I think).

However, looking at your link to the unofficial summary, it only talks about children under 15 with reference to armed conflict (Article 38) so I'm probably wrong.

I love youtube but I avoid to much internet on my telephone, at one point a few years ago, I was addicted to reading horoscopes, next thing you know in one month my bill was over two hundred dollars.

I said forget it, I pay a monthly set cost with rogers high speed, and as of tomorrow it will be a wireless modem, so...same cost..

But appreciate this list

Hi clueless crafter,

Wow. That is an intense story. I've heard many stories like that from people who become vegetarian. The worst was from a woman who as a girl had to eat the rabbit she had been playing with earlier at a family farm for dinner.

Hugging a Dead Chicken

On the topic of animals and respect, I had to share this. On Friday night, we decided to relax at home and roast a whole chicken for dinner. I began the prep work without second thought, quickly unwrapping and washing it before its visit to the oven. When I went to pat it dry, a wave of emotion washed over me. I felt sad for its pain and even sadder by the way I was treating it. Its skin was incredibly soft and its wings felt like the arms of an infant. When I picked it up, it hung limp under its weight, completely plucked clean and heartlessly pricked with a built in thermometer.

I sobbed. Sobbed in respect and with profound sadness for its suffering. My eyes opened.

Has anyone else experienced this connection?

http://www.thecluelesscrafter.com/
