Martha

Hi Kalyn! Martha was actually my mother-in-law (I know I rather purposefully obscured that in my post about her...), so the fondue is family recipe also, even though I'm not Swiss myself. I'm glad I paid enough attention to record her fondue method before she passed away, and happy I get to share it with the world.

Chevre-Mascarpone Spread and Blackberries

My current favorite is something I tried for a Christmas Eve appetizer: Chevre-Mascarpone Spread and Blackberries on crackers. It was so delicious I'm making it again for New Year's!

Best Cheese Recipe

These are all great classic cheese appetizers and any would be wonderful for a New Year's Eve party. But I have to say that the best cheese recipe ever is: 1) Go to a reall good market, 2) ask questions and sample, 3) buy the best you can afford of what you fall in love with and 4) take home, unwrap, bring to optimum temperature, set out on table with good plain crackers and 5) enjoy!

Of course, that's also the lazy way to serve cheese! But you know that really good cheese is a treat to be savored -- perfect for New Year's. And now I've made myself really crave some ...

Although I used to own a fondue set. I love it though. We've been debating what to eat for New Year's...I think we've settled on Mexican.

For traditional recipes like this, I often think old family recipes are the best! Happy New Year to you too!

Cheese, Cats and Amy Sedaris

Love the vision of cheese-addicted cats! Our cats, for some strange reason, go beserk over cantaloupe. Who knew???!!! Amy Sedaris' cheese-ball recipe is a good one, as all her recipes are. Her book, "I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence," is a hoot. I've given it several times as a new apartment/housewarming gift.

I made Amy Sedaris's cheese ball. I had a great time making it...but a better time eating it. You can check it out here on Veggin'. (Bonus footage of Amy Sedaris on Martha Stewart is also included on my post...)

Split Pea Soup

My son would never forgive me if a huge pot of split pea soup did not closely follow a ham dinner. A boneless ham to me is a wasted opportunity!
