I love soups!

I love the article and i totally agree. Losing weight with soup is easier than it looks. For me, soups are filling and for there weight in calories, i really feel like i ate something! I think that a soup every day, especialy in winter, is part of a great healthy life and it just.. tastes so good. Makes me think, can't wait to watch the first snow out the window!

Agreed

I completely agree with you. For me The Alchemist from Paulo Coelho started it all. It opened new doors that I couldn't see before. It lead to re-energization and of course better health. Although I have to say that sometimes I got into higher vibrations (I don't know exactly how to describe it) and fell hard.

Nonetheless an inspirational book always lifts you up!

I couldn't agree more. I have a 5 and a 6 year old, but we are very spontaneous. If a friend calls and says hey meet us somewhere, we are there. We do have our routines, especially during the school year but, you are so right. You have to do fun things with AND without the kids in tow. I learned this spontaneity from my mother who is in her 50's...I can barely keep up with her. Even silly things with the kids like having breakfast for dinner can just be refreshing and fun knowing you're breaking some sort of rule somewhere for someone who would gasp at the thought of you feeding pancakes to your child at 6pm instead of meat and potatoes. We only live once....why waste it??

I'm not really a drinker. I get "tipsy" so easily that my son (17) tells people I shouldn't even be allowed to sit next to an open bottle of wine...he thinks the fumes are enough to get me drunk.

Dry martinis

I love dry martini but I rarely indulge because my body simply doesn't handle it too well. When I do indulge, which will probably happen tonight, I do exactly as you say: eat something first, drink plenty of water, and sip slowly. There's no way I can handle more than one martini per night so I make sure it lasts for as long as possible. :)

and with good reason.

I needed to get my mind and life back to a good place, and well... that part is getting there. There are still some things left to handle, but all in all... is headed in the right direction.

As for having fun, some of the adjustments made over time are not exactly what most would call fun, but I rather relish them. There will come a time when more traditionally fun things filter back in, travel and concerts and maybe even getting my arse on cross country skis or in a sailboat again... but for now, this works, this is where my life must be.

On a different note, I've not been here in a while - turtleing and writing fiction - but I like how the site is structured now.

My scores on these games are always better in the morning (even though I actually feel more tired in the morning).

I can't do them before bed because it would have the opposite effect on me. They get addicting to me, and I wouldn't want to go to sleep. Sometimes even reading is difficult for me to stop, I just keep thinking I'll read one more page, and then another.

Those are my favourites. I used to do them a lot before bed as a way of getting my head to quiet down and stop thinking about work. Worked great. I haven't been doing them so much lately though. :)

great tips

but I would just like to make a comment about #1 by quoting Sadhguru: "Why
would anybody manage stress? It took me a while to understand people have made stress part of life. Stress is not a part of life. It is not your lifestyle, it is not
your work, it is not your family.... It is your inability to manage your system... Now we are not looking at how to manage stress, nor how to keep it under the surface. I am talking about how not to create it, because stress is your creation."

It's wonderful to give reasons to encourage people to meditate, but let's not just stop at the physical and mental benefits. Meditation can be a profound spiritual experience which shows us realms beyond the physical and mental...!!!

This is so true!

I've been eating this way for so long that I hardly consider it a "diet" any more. And I do eat things once in a while (like at Christmas!) that aren't really low-glycemic foods. I can tell when I do eat the wrong things though, simply by the way I have less energy, more moodiness, and more cravings for sugar and other empty carbs.

As for the question about rebounding, this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. If you go back to eating mostly chips, burgers, and fries, yes you will gain all the weight back. But once you reach your goal weight you can get add back enough of your favorite foods that I don't think there is any reason to feel deprived. There are so many low glycemic options for things like pasta, rice, bread, and low GI vegetables, that you really can eat lots of delicious food.

Seriously, even if it wasn't for the weight loss benefits, I think most people would be amazed at how much better they felt if they ate this way.

Thanks for the link too!

I'm a diabetic PCOS-er and have been living low-GI for several years now (as a lifestyle choice to deal with my own personal health issues). With research and careful planning--and a commitment to eat this way for a lifetime--I don't ever feel deprived. There are all kinds of products on the market today (keeping in mind that anyone on a special diet can not generally do the local-and-in-season thing), such as whole grain pastas, alternative flours, berries & melons available year-round. I make low-fat muffins with oat bran cereal & oatmeal, make my own chocolate chips with unsweetened chocolate & my favorite sugar sub, and I make berry-filled sugar-free flourless chocolate cakes that keep my sugar- and flour-eating friends drooling. It can be done, and deliciously.

I imagine it's all diets that have a kind of "rebound" effect once you stop following them. That's why it is so important to have a plan to maintain your weight loss by continuing to eat healthy, even once you are finished with your diet. And that's also why going on a strict "diet" isn't always the best idea...Sometimes it's a better idea to incorporate healthy eating habits into your everyday life, and make a commitment to healthy living rather than X amount of days on a diet.

I've had success

This year I converted some old favorites into healthier cookie recipes. My version of healthy means more pure, using whole food ingredients. No bleached sugar or xylitol, no white flour. And it's been a great success. I think they are even better tasting than before! Why not try?
