You are right

You are right on a few things. The first one being that you should wear sunscreen each and every day even in the winter. I think that a lot of us forget that we need to wear it in the winter too. The second thing is getting a hair cut. As a mother I find that I cut my hair less and less with each year that goes by. It is a luzury in the budget and something that I often tell myself I do not NEED. Now that my hair is starting to gray for the first time ever I am thinking more and more that it is something that I need to do. I should make an appointment for next week! Wish me luck and thanks for the motivation to get out there and do it!

I totally agree on the haircut front. In college I would get one haircut per year, cut short and allowed to grow out for the rest of the year. Now that I have an income, keeping up on my hair makes me feel SO MUCH BETTER about the way I look. It may even prevent me from buying new clothes...or not. We'll see.:)

I loved that Glamour piece!

I don't usually read Glamour, but I picked it up on a whim, and I agree -- that ten pushups a day thing was BRILLIANT. And the article was dead on -- make small changes, just for short periods of time (the women in the article each made one small change for 30 days) and you'll see big results.

I'm totally doing pushups. Starting right now.

Haircuts and small changes

I definitely agree about the haircuts. Sometimes I flinch, but how many times have I been feeling kind of schleppy, and then someone says "your hair looks great" and I realize that my whole look was saved by a good haircut!

Glamour magazine had an article about small changes this month also, I was inspired by the lady who did just 10 pushups a day after rolling out of bed. What a great way to just get in the right frame of mind, no specialy gear or gym membership required. She said she saw a tightening in her upper arms in just a week or so, and she was planning to move on to add a few sit-ups too!

Ditching old makeup is really essential. Even if you want to wear a product that you've had for years, your skin will really thank you for not going there :)

Since there is no way I can do the wear everything challenge, I am going to get cruel with the beauty products. Just because I spent $25 on a lipgloss, the fact I have only worn it once gives it a trip to the bin. Yay for the encouragement!

@sassy - depends on your skin. I was reading an amazing piece in In Style? Lucky? Some magazine about how Oil of Olay actually makes really good skin care products, many of them better than other brands that cost double, triple, etc as much.

Someone else will have better advice, I am sure.

I've been procrastinating on it for wayyy too long. As in long than a month.

I've just started using Oil of Olay's foaming facial clothes. I find them pretty nice. I do need to find a better moisturizer that has an SPF in it though. Anyone have suggestions?

I'm packing today

I'm packing today for our trip to the grandparents' for the rest of the week. I hate packing, too, and I especially hate packing an entire household including stuff for two toddlers! At least we're driving, so I can theoretically pack most everything I might need without worrying about fitting everything into a carry-on or checking a bunch of luggage. But still! It's hard.

Hate packing for the holidays.

I feel your pain - HATE packing this time of year. I have a huge problem with overpacking & taking lots of lightweight coordinating pieces with distinctive accessories really helps lighten the load.

Classics are always versatile.

I think it's key to stick with classic silhouettes & colors. They last for years & can be dressed up or down with strategic use of accessories & layering pieces.

Multi-Tasking Pieces

Thanks for the great tips! When packing for holiday trips, I also make my sleepwear do double duty by leaving the frilly and revealing at home and packing sleek-fitting black yoga pants, elastic-waist knit sleep shorts that don't ride up when I sit down, camisoles/tanks with shelf bras, non-sloppy T-shirts and lightweight yet warm long-sleeved knit tops, all color-coordinated for mixing and matching. That way, I don't need to pack a robe and can comfortably wander out into the kitchen in the morning or lounge around in the evening in front of all family members without embarrassment. Check Victoria's Secret and Gap for some excellent choices.

These are great recycling

These are great recycling ideas for the holidays (or any day of the year really). My dad and I have been re-using wrapping paper for as long as I can remember. Aside from saving the earth, re-using bags, ribbons, and bows will also save money on buying gift-wrapping materials. My family always uses cloth tablecloth and napkins, and we have been saving out plastic food containers for years to re-use them as leftover containers. Taylor Gifts also has many items to help people recycle, like the 3 Recycle Bags and the Can Crusher
