Wow, thanks so much for the positive feedback! BlogHer rocks! I just got started and already the experience has been beyond what I imagined it would be. Very positive and exciting! I'm very grateful. I've learned things already. I'm very serious about my quest to learn more, becoming more tech savvy, and developing my creative/arstistic blog. Already have met some intelligent and very interesting women. I'm soooo excited about all this!!!

I saw this post early and said "You must go answer!" and then I got busy and just now got back to it... and here are two great CEs jumping in to talk to you.

I love these women and I'm so glad you're taking the time to try new things and ask questions.

Awesome!

Essential HTML...

Thank you thank you thank you! I will read your article. My experience here at BlogHer has already been great, beyond what I imagined it would be, so soon.

I have learned so much already, here and from Bloggingbasics101 (which led me here), and I think a year from now I will be so much more informed/educated. I'm going to teach myself HTML, (think I'll check if City College has a course, that couldn't hurt), learn everything and anything I need to know, so I can develop this creative/artistic blog idea. I'm really excited, working on this project.

rich text and html

Thank you so much! Yep, I had a feeling Rich-Text had some relationship to HTML. Yes, I understand. Rich-Text, then, nullifies HTML, clashes with it, so you have to clear it, i.e. "disable Rich-Text", to use HTML.

I'm glad I found this site. I'm glad I found Bloggingbasics101 which led me to this site. I've already learned a few things I need/want to know. This excites me. If I have learned this much so far, a year from today, whoa, watch out!

What Gena said

When you disable rich text you can use full HTML, which means you can copy code to embed video, Flickr images, and other neat stuff for your post. You can also use HTML tags for things like links and lists.

Here's an article I wrote a while back about Essential HTML for BlogHer Posts.

Yep, It Does Have to Do With HTML

There are better people to explain but BlogHer rich text is kinda like word processing, there is hidden code in the background that helps folks do hyperlinks and other stuff.

For those of us that upload video that rich text makes placing the embed video code go nutsy. By switching to Disable Rich-Text and then selecting full HTML we can copy and paste the code directly (do not hit the preview button) and then upload.

The text and video appear correctly.

I added examples using the "#" for IDs as well. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Why the class?

Thanks Virginia, sorry you couldn't attend.

The examples were for discussing the syntax of the properties and values really, the selector was just for placement. I believe all of the examples on the site would work for ID elements as well, you would just swap the "." out for a "#"

Hope that clarifies.

Interesting stuff

I wasn't able to attend your session so I was very interested in seeing the material you posted. Since I didn't hear what you had to say, I'm wondering why you presented all your CSS rule suggestions as a class? Each example was
.element {some rule;}

Why the class?

http://www.webteacher.ws/
Nope

HTML isn't accepted in profiles. We can't eliminate the underscores because the profiles turn everything into "tags". We'll be explaining this more fully soon because we're working on an update for profiles that will be really exciting for everyone.

That's part of why we've made some of these site changes - to give members more ways to create content and get noticed.

Point well taken regarding the forums though, they are no longer featured on the front page. We have to figure out some ways to feature those.

I think this came up yesterday somehwere, but can we use html in our profiles? And is there a way to get rid of the underscores/

I do use a reader, but I'm

I do use a reader, but I'm an extreme minimalist about subscriptions.
Honestly, I would probably never look at the forums if it weren't for those teasers that catch my eye up front. I loved that a newbie intro or question warranted a teaser on the index page. To me, it was evidence of the grassroots nature of blogher.

But that's just me. You all are doing an outstanding job helping us get re-oriented.
