So you criticize her clothing and dig into the cost of her shoes but ignore the fact that Obama has spent the last 20+ years being groomed by the Communists and Socialists of America to "change" our country.You talk about her suits but ignore the fact that

Obama surrounded himself with friends and mentors like: Admitted terrorist Bill Ayers, convicted criminal Tony Rezko, Jeremiah Wright, Raila Odinga (admitted marxist that Obama campaigned for on our tax dollars), Frank M. Davis (admitted communist), Khalid Al Mansour (who stated that "Black people have a Godly justification and duty to murder and mutilate white people in america.") and John L. McKnight (admitted communist).

Good to know you have the whole wardrobe thing covered though!

I am not a Palin fan AT ALL. The one thing I was a fan of is her style. Well now I know its someone else's. But I like that she is feminine in the way she dresses. She has on heels and great looking flowing peices that are unapologetically female. The one Palin pic I loved was the one where there is a bottle sticking out of her cute purse! Then this story broke and so did the one thing I like about her. Because the dream home my kids and I drive pass weekly is 159K. It has 4 beds and a pool with a front yard made for footbal and soccer. This woman spent that in a few days? I get that there are 7 of them but $hit. Are they serious? Pundit mom I have the same shoes but I think I could get past 5 or even 10K but the price of my 4bed 2ba pool 2car garage dream home.....not!

I think I going to do a dream dirve by today.

She Needed Clothes

I just heard John McCain defending her saying, "She needed clothes." And when the campaign's over, they'll be donated to charity.

What bothers me is the hypocrisy. She's a reformer and out to cut waste. What's more obscene than spending $70,000 in one shopping trip at Saks for clothes? And at a time when people are losing their homes and not working. I see a real disconnect here.

I guess she's just one of us.

Barack Obama spent at least $1,500 on his convention suit according to
the Chicago Sun-Times. He ordered a custom made worsted worsted wool
two-button suit from the high-end men's suit retailer Hartmax for the
occassion. That same suit off the rack, meaning NOT custom made, is
priced at $1,500.

Mrs. Obama has worn, and was applauded for wearing to her husband's
convention speech, are priced around $1250 each. Mrs. Obama's favorite
Chicago designer Maria Pinto, who crafted Michelle's convention speech
dress (here), charges anywhere from $900-$5,000 for her dresses. Other Pinto pieces, like shirts and accessories, start at $300 each.

... any similar numbers, but I've never heard of campaigns buying clothes and make-up for a candidate, let alone their whole family. If they spend their own money on Escada suits, that's OK with me.

The downside for Palin and the GOP, is that they are pushing this populist, "Joe the plumber," every American kind of story and I don't know many people who can afford wardrobes like that.

As one Dem said, if Palin's $150K wardrobe was an American family, they'd do well under Obama's economic plan! ;)

I think in a year of budget cuts, not having enough money to spend on necessities, and living pay check to pay check, it's ridiculous to spend so much on clothes.

However, how much did the other candidates spend on their clothes and charge it off to the campaign? Do the Democrats have similar numbers? Are the numbers available?

If one side gets ripped for high spending, I think both sides of the story should be shown.

Given that every retro era is in this fall from the 20s through to the 80s I bet we all have (or our mothers) have a great stash of authentic fashion for one or more of the eras hidden in the back of the closet.

My suggestion is to pull out pieces that you love and that fit well and recycle them. The trick is to use one or two retro pieces and mix it up with something modern to give you a retro but contemporary look.

Accessories such as artisan jewelry can be great for completing your look and getting a great retro look without breaking the bank.

As a full-time employed person turned semi-employed person (thank you, imploding newspaper industry), I, too, find I am shopping a whole lot less. What I do now is buy maybe one or two really well made things once a year (on sale, of course!) that I know will stand the test of time. One of my best friends, the fashion editor at the newspaper I used to work at, taught me the importance of having a good tailor, too, once you reach the age of 40. it doesn't cost that much to have a seam taken in here and there, but the results are dramatic. Something off the rack all of a sudden looks like it was designed just for you. That's money well spent.

Unfortunately, I'm short, with an unusually short span between my waist and hips. This means that most short dresses (unless they are empire line) just look like sacks. (or they have hips below my hips, if you know what I mean).

Any suggestions?
