Personally I'd like to see a lot less Mary Kay

I have four sisters and all of them at one time in their lives have been Mary Kay consultants. Only one of them makes money at it and I don't really know how much. She's been doing it for 20 years and is a director. I don't know how much she makes, but I get the sense it's not substantial considering she's looking for another home-based business.

I think a lot of women sign up just to get product for themselves at cost and if they make a sale, great. Maybe they get tired of it after a while and move on to a different line or are just sick of the paperwork.

Personally, the thing I don't like about Mary Kay, besides their products, is how cult-like it is (http://www.epinions.com/content_1108320388). Also, I'm not sure I could be a part of a business that insists women need lipstick or wrinkle reducer to give them self-esteem.

Women Quit Lots of Things-How Does that Destroy Their Lives?

I think it's quite a jump to say that because many women who start a Mary Kay business quit, that means that the company is at fault, or that it has destroyed their lives. That goes beyond faulty reasoning--it's completely illogical.

Women quit lots of things: they quit high school, college, various jobs, their marriages, etc. They move on. Why would quitting Mary Kay "destroy" their lives?

If they quit college, that doesn't make college inherently bad. The same thing goes for marriage -- many people quit, but that doesn't mean the institution of marriage is at fault.

Women change their minds. Sometimes we give up, becasue we're lazy, or insecure, or impatient. We all change our minds. Isn't that our prerogative?

I wasn't horrified either but

When Jimmy said he thought there were going to be adults, I cringed. I'm very sure his parents and the people interviewing explained what was going to happen but that's an example of how little kids really process until they are thrown into something.

I can understand every kid there saying "I didn't know it was going to be like this" - that makes sense, we all do that when we jump into new situations. But the very basic understanding of logistics - NO ADULTS - he didn't process it. Or he couldn't process it. Until he experienced it.

I am also concerned about editing. As with all reality TV shows, the editing plays a huge role in how we feel about individuals and I worry that some of these kids are going to go home and be treated very badly, by peers, because of how the show was edited.

Interesting show. Very interesting.
