I love to meet fellow crafters

Oh no! There goes my whole morning - now I'll have to look into all these links! Thanks!

I'm threeundertwo on twitter, and on my blog Lit and Laundry I host "Finished for Friday" where I invite anybody to show what they've finished up. It's giving me the motivation to work on my huge list of unfinished projects.

I knew there were crafty Tweeters out there somewhere

I started tweeting in hopes that far flung friends would jump on the bandwagon and we'd keep in touch. Alas, it hasn't happened yet!

Tactile_Travel tweets about the travel and textile world, whereas AlannaN gets my personal tweets. I'm looking forward to following you!

I Love Mine!

I come from a family that makes things - I make jewelry for my busiess, my dad makes remote controlled airplanes, my mother spins, weaves, knits and creates all manner of textiles.

I love the hat she made me - it is wonderful! So I highly recommend a hand spun, knitted and felted hat for winter!

Felting Tutorials

I've done several posts in the past about felting! The two easiest to find are:

Because We Felt Like It and

Turning Last Year's Wool Sweater into Winter's Felted Purse This was a really popular post! I see that Alyssa Royse likes the idea of sewing first and felting later, too.

But a new post specifically on felting the fabric and sewing it into a hat has been put on my "to do" list!

I always felt first..

Mrs. W,

I always felt first for a couple reasons:

1. the fabric doesn't unravel when I cut it. BIG reason to felt first.

2. I know exactly how much fabric I have. If I constructed then felted, I'd have to have some kind of form to shape it to or run the risk that the it would shrink up too much.

On the other hand, if I were to knit a hat (or purse), I'd knit it big and then felt it. Mayhaps that's where your brain is headed?

I'm thinking that I need to just use a simple pattern and write up a tutorial for making a felted winter hat. OK! Look for that one soon!

Debra
Hats for Winter...

It turned cold suddenly here in central Spain about a week ago. One day the temperature is in the mid 70s, next it's shivering conditions, so hats for winter - hand made or otherwise - does seem such a good idea! I could even wear one while I work as in the house seems cooler than usual too.

Felting

I've been toying with the idea of felting; there are so many great wool sweaters at the goodwill store to use! So is it better to felt the sweater BEFORE making the hat? Somehow I thought of sewing a giant hat, then felting... don't know why my brain might be suggesting that particular order.

I do like to read, prefer Audio Books so I can knit or spin.I checked out your blog, I'm going to try to get the book, Earthly Pleasures. Maybe I will have found myself a new author! Thanks for the tip on Soak, next time i"ll try it in cool water and see how it goes for me.Terrye Kinch
Knitting Editor
http://knitting.craftgossip.com/

I love Soak!

My favourite bra store threw in a small bottle of it (I guess the bullet) for free (I had just spent an obscene amount of money there...) and I've been hooked on it ever since for handwashables like bras and wool sweaters. It definitely works better with cold water than hot. I use their aquae scent and it's not overpowering.
Soak is one of my all time favourite products.
