There's a great role for bloggers in tracking that issue

Hi Norma,

First, you're welcome. Thanks for reading and commenting.

I think that property taxes are going to be an issue in many local elections in the coming year, and the pressure will be in two directions. On the one hand, certainly homeowners will be pressing for revaluations. On the other hand, municipalities will probably also see pressure to maintain services, especially since state and federal funding for many services will likely be cut or remain flat.

It would be great if bloggers could track this issue over the next year or two, and the results could be collected in a central location, like placeblogger.com.

Thanks again.

Kim-This is an interesting

Kim-This is an interesting and important article. Thanks for it. One thing, though, you didn't mention is the impact of property taxes, especially when those taxes are indexed at the higher, previous value of the home. Are you aware of any discusssions at the municiple level about rolling back property taxes to reflect the newer, lower home values? I'm not.

I kind of disagree

Suzanne, I agree that this is a terrible crisis, but I don't think single women who were in a position to buy a home on their own are any worse off than the other minorities, poor people, etcetera who were taken advantage of. I actually feel like this topic is getting a lot of coverage, and government agencies are taking actions to help these people out. I suppose I don't generally read that it's "single women" specifically who have been victimized, but still...i

While I turn to TONY to find the best pizza on the block, I do not turn to them for hard-hitting social commentary.

And this made me think of Sex & the City too.

Do you remember the Sex and the City episode

where Carrie was on the cover of NY Magazine, looking like a heroin addict, with the headline, "Single and Fabulous"? The TONY story reminded me of that.

Related: Singles is group that's 'legally" discrimated against

Article: Stop Singlism Among the forms of discrimination (workplace, estates), it mentions this about mortgages:

As a single homeowner, you can pay the same sale price, down payment, mortgage interest and property tax as that lovely couple in the identical house down the street--but should you choose to sell your home, you are entitled to only half the maximum capital gains exemption they will receive.
