What are the duties

It takes like 6 weeks to get certified. Yes, cleaning and changing elderly is usually a part of the job. Most CNA's work in nursing homes or in home health. Some work at hospitals, as "techs" and a few make it into the Dr.'s office, but they are usually looking for nurses at clinics. If you want to become a CNA, certified nurse's aid, I would recommend applying for a job at a nursing home. Most will train the CNA's and have the state come out to certify you. You will take a written test and then a test of your skills.
If you have a serious problem with "cleaning and changing" the elderly, I would say this job is not for you. Even if you were to get a job someplace without elderly, you most likely will have to do it, at least during your training. And other CNA's and nurses do not look kindly on people that act like they are too good to do that. Just telling it like it is.

It is a rewarding career, but the money is not so good. A lot of places will have some type of program where they will help their aids go to nursing school. If you sign a contract to work for them for 2 years or so after you graduated.

Speaking of CNA's, it is said that we, as a country, we will pay a person more money to dump our trash than to wipe our mother's butt, feed her, and do all the things we can't, or won't, do ourselves for her.

I used to never see "pay back agreements" (especially for executives) but lately it's becoming more popular. Yuck.

Ooh - relocation is never very good. I have relocated (ok ok, relocating does go that far in the UK as the country isn't THAT big!!) twice and both times I did not ask for nor expect help from the company, mostly because I work for the National Health Service!!

However, I would say that no matter what the company I would definitely negotiate a graded solution to paying the money back, I mean how could possibly be expected to pay it back if you eventually leave the company five, ten or even fifteen years later - you've already paid the company back in the job that you do(did)!

Friending your boss

I can see situations in my world when I would not have wanted to friend my boss - or my coworkers. Then of course there's the whole problem of trying to keep a blog "anonymous" so your boss and your coworkers don't read it - because sometimes you just have to blog about your boss

errr, not me. I neverrrrrr blog about my boss. OK OK fine, I do but I only say nice things. But that's because I only have nice things to say. What happens if I have less than nice things to say? What happens if I need to vent .... I can't, not really. It would be wrong and I just would not do it.

Because I work "here", my work life and my "social networking life" are one in the same. I'm cool with that.

I'd love to talk about previous jobs, and social networking in relationship to those former bosses and coworkers but... nah. Some of them are reading right now.

I accepted his invitation and discovered Facebook.

I don't think it's a big deal. I don't consider my Facebook account as "private", any more than I consider my blog as private. I think it's a mistake to rely on the privacy features of online social networks. I only ever post PG-type stuff anyway, and I would NEVER complain about my boss in writing - not even on email.

This is a really good post. Thanks for all the great links.

By the way, one of our contributors at Queercents wrote about knowing your rights as a debtor. It's helpful for those that have become buried by credit card debt. Of course, best not to get in trouble in the first place, but if it happens then there are ways to become Almost Debt Free.
