NEA Grant Controversy

I guess I'll be worried when NEA grants STOP creating controversy. And they are vitally important. As a teacher, even in a very affluent area, I see that the arts are always the first to receive the ax when it's time for budget cutting. Our mildly successful football program receives full funding, but our award winning middle-school choir has to increase its already-steep participation fee.

I wouldn't take this list of projects at face value

I don't know whether Michelle Malkin picked up on the Frameline / CounterPulse / Perverts Put Out (PPO) story from Fox News, or vice versa, but it would appear she's been as guilty of lax fact-checking as Fox News has been, in relation to PPO, as I summarised here.

PPO receives NO money from the NEA. It PAYS money to CounterPULSE, a community dance group, for the use of their performance space, four or five times a YEAR, not weekly.

Given that Michelle Malkin and Fox News showed little regard for the truth in the specific instance of PPO, one wonders how many other of the projects they've seen fit to highlight are similarly NOT in receipt of NEA funding.

Gay, lesbian, incest?

Ummm could I make a request? Could you try not to lump gays and lesbians into the incest category? Homosexuality and incest are not related in any way shape or form.

But yes, I worry about our daughters. Very much. Not that they'll be lesbians, 'cause I'm a lesbian and that's really not something to worry about - it's something to support and embrace. Other stuff, oh yes. I worry.

Valid question

I hadn't thought about the movie issue. Something tells me the movie will feel more like her book though I could be wrong since tragic stories about fallen women sell as well, if not better, than bad girl sex stories.

I'm just super interested in what led her from where she seemed to be when she wrote the book to where she seems to be now. Is it age and maturity? Were her feelings in the book not real or honest in some way? I'm just really fascinated by all of Jenna's "personas". :-)

A Choice for Others Too

She just wants to feel and be normal. But I wonder whether they'll approach this subject in the movie that they are doing about her life. Regardless, she made a choice that was good for her and by going public with it, she showed other women that it can be a choice for them, too.

Did you read Jameson's book? Didn't sound like she was unhappy with her implants or her life at all. I wonder if she'll write another book in the next few years.

Very interesting.
