One other thing to consider

There's another aspect of this thing I hope you do better than another blog site I read. I would caution you against "bloggers" who post blogs that echo and/or support the content on their own, commercial (paying) websites, or that promote the products or services that pay for advertising on those sites. There is one in particular who dubiously uses professional clout to push a personal/professional agenda and generally makes the blog into an advertisement for him/herself and his/her other site(s). It may or may not be a gray area, but it's worth considering.

Wow - getting invited to re-connect with someone who passed on, now that is one very spooky email. Similar but not as bad as receiving a letter I wrote to a friend that was returned to sender (me) about 2 weeks after his funeral.....that was a sad moment indeed.

Paula Gregorowicz
The Paula G Company
http://www.thepaulagcompany.com

Learn 5 Steps to Move from Fear to Freedom (free)

Facebook Struggling To Deal With This

I had never even thought about this issue before reading your post, it was a real eye-opener. Coincidentally I have just been seeing some complaints regarding Facebook's "reconnect" feature they have been highlighting lately. People are complaining because Facebook is suggesting they 'reconnect' with people that have passed away. So clearly there needs to be a better mechanism in place to deal with this issue. Thanks for raising this issue and for the resources you provide.

Lucy

Totally agree on the Eerie thing, to a degree, nice memorial, but on the other hand....

And what happens if/when these sites sink in with longevity and there are more accounts/people affected with passing away. Just an interesting thought

Paula Gregorowicz
The Paula G Company
http://www.thepaulagcompany.com

Learn 5 Steps to Move from Fear to Freedom (free)

Great idea Virginia...of course most people don't think to be so organized & proactive, but it IS an excellent strategy. Thanks for chiming in.

Paula Gregorowicz
The Paula G Company
http://www.thepaulagcompany.com

Learn 5 Steps to Move from Fear to Freedom (free)

and stuck it in the note book that has my will and other legal documents. My kids know where this is, and they know how to find my passwords. I hope they can take care of things without too much hassle from a TOS agreement.

Virginia DeBolt
BlogHer Technology CE | Web Teacher | First 50 Words

It's amazing how many people don't even use e-mail

I've run into this quite a bit with the bands I've been in. It seems that there's always one person (usually the bass player for some unknown reason) who either doesn't have e-mail or never check his e-mail. Considering that I would prefer it if I never had to take or make another phone call as long as I live, it makes communication a little dicey.

Let's not forget the friend(!) who once said to me, "I can't believe anyone would ever read a blog. How boring!" Well, I guess you won't be reading mine then. You know, the one I've had for five years now...

I have a relative who doesn't want her kids to have computers in the home, and thinks all of this web stuff is destroying society. Something she shares at family gatherings, speaking to me. You know, the gal who co-founded a company which champions and encourages and promotes all of this web stuff. It's nice.

Elisa Camahort Page BlogHer elisa@blogher.com My BlogHer profile truly shows you everything I do online...Check it out!!

It definitely makes sense to consider all of these things now that most of us our so entrenched in the digital age. A good friend of my little sis passed away. I didn't know her but seeing her My Space profile and knowing that this person was no longer around to post status updates and that it would be sitting there for all eternity was sort of erie.

I was so glad when you folks decided to let men in. I wanted to be part of this network because I had such respect for fellow food bloggers such as Kalyn, Alanna, Elise, and others who were already part of it. I knew them to be honest and ethical journalists and if they trusted BlogHer, I was willing to do so also. I read your terms carefully before signing on and read each amendment carefully. You guys are doing a great job. And one of these days I'll make enough money to justify a conference - or not, Seriously Good may be irremediably inconoclastic, doomed to be a food blog for the pleasure of serious (or quirky) fooderatis.
