Adam is talented I guess but he's just not my cup of tea (to quote Elisa!) and I thought he was way off the other night. I'm completely routing for Kris.

Can I just say, I didn't read your post before I wrote my own, but I totally agree that Adam is in danger and if he's dumped tonight it'll be because of last night alone.

His performance of "One" was, as Simon would say, self-indulgent and didn't make a good impact at all. And choosing "Crying" was a mistake.

Overall I think Kris was pretty good but he's the least talented of the three.

Adam/Kris Final Please!

Yes, Adam was a bit off last night. He didn't seem as confident and he did butcher the middle of "One". BUT, Danny is just so BORING. "You Are So Beautiful To Me" was dull and breathy. The Terence Trent D'Arby song was a clumsy, awkward yelling mess. As for Kris, I started out this season thinking he was just cute and an OK singer. Starting with "Falling Slowly", he has really won me over. I want an Adam/Kris final, and I even voted maniacally for both of them last night (more heavily weighted to Adam, of course!). Ah the shame of becoming one of those obsessed re-dialers!

Loved Adam and Allison. Thought Kris did the best he could. Thought Danny was K until he did that "Halloween" screaming at the end.

As soon as Kara made the early Aerosmith comment I near bounded out of my seat. I recall a day in early 1973, Keene State College, someone in our dorm with a new album brought back over break, of 'a band from my area', which was in fact the Sunapee area of the state. Hello, Aerosmith, and hello, 'Dream On'. I doubt he or me or anyone ever thought in that moment that was anything other than a local band, rofl.

Adam, well, I just smirked through his performance, what else could I do? No one else could do what he did last night, it was wonderful.

Allison, I thought she did well, but had a bit of difficulty for the stuff requiring less power, not at all unusual for many on the show... I am no expert, but have to think that is simply inexperience. Hers was the second best performance of the night, and it should be enough to save her, at least ideally, though Simon seemed to think she needed Adam's help. I hope not, she earned it on her own.

As for the other two, Danny... was awful.

absent the two judge only experiment of a few weeks back. No quirky contestants who can barely sing but somehow keep getting voted through.

I hope for an Allison/Adam final, because I like her, but also because you know there is more yet to come, and it could show at any moment. She has the potential to do something notable at any time. If she were eighteen now, this might be a totally different competition. Given her voice and stage presence (fearless) she will improve far more than any of the contestants (assuming Adam is already at a high level.)

Her time, in terms of this show, is now - rock week is a virtual gift to her, but can she take that opportunity and get it done?

She is still an underdog to reach the finals. This week she has to take us from 'Allison is good' to 'that was an astounding performance!'

By the way...Taylor Hicks surprised me last night, the song was actually good (not that the vocals were superb, but as entertainment, well done. :-)

Usually they tell the person to join whichever group they think is either the top or the bottom. They just asked Adam to join a group. With Allison (who many suspected would be in the bottom) with Danny and Kris with Matt, he really could argue it either way!

I'm glad Allison was safe, and like you: I hope she tears it up next week.

I really really like everyone in the Top 4, truth be told, so we're in for a good last 3 weeks, don't you think?

I think that when you are nervous, it is harder to sustain and control your breathing on long passages and low phrases. When you can just belt it out, up high (yet comfortably in your range) it takes less finesse and less control. You just take a deep breath and wail it out.

My Funny Valentine is not a belty song, it's a sophisticated song with long, intricate phrases (melody and lyrics-wise).

I think the entire song choice was a risk for that reason. Which is fine if Matt had great control of his pitch and breathing. But he didn't know himself well enough. In his past performances he has let nerves get to him and has done better when doing more funky upbeat tunes. He sohuld have picked something swinging and free and easy. he would have been more relaxed, and therefore more in tune and more comfortable.

Adam, OTOH, has exhibited tremendous breath and pitch control, so he would have done better had HE tried something more complex and demanding (and sensitive) I think. We seem to prefer his sensitive side :)

and it caught everyone off guard. You could sense Adam was being set up in some way; and he might have been wise to do as others have in years previous and simply sat down at mid-stage.

More than anything, I was relieved Allison was safe. Next week is key for her, it should be where she thrives. If she doesn't do something special, she might be next.

Someone give her Linda Perry's first cd, quickly. Wish we could get Linda there to work with her, sigh.

But like Nordette, I know what I like. And, though Adam may have the technically better voice, I can't see myself listening to his CD. Danny was my favorite early on and then Kris crept into the top spot. I'm glad they are both safe.

Elisa, do you think Matt would have done better if he didn't take Jamie Foxx's advice and lower the key? It seemed to me, as you said, that he was uncomfortable (in the performance show, more so than last night!)

I guess I've come to expect so much from Adam, waiting for his performances on pins and needles, that weeks like this are a big letdown. That's not to say he's not far and away better than everyone else. But I expect that. I expect the theatricality and technical skill. I know he can wail and that he can hold notes for impossibly long amounts of time. But for some reason, his performance last night left me cold. It didn't feel the emotional connection that draws me to him week after week. Have I just become jaded?

Love Allison. Okay, she may not be "ready," but I don't care. Love her and the sound of her voice. The others... not really caring which one goes. But yes, it should be Matt.
