Thanks!

Great post! Our kids don't know how lucky they are to be poor! They have all the things that count. It is sad how families grow distant after the kids grow up. My siblings and I never really knew any of our relatives because they lived so far away and we were too poor to travel. That is one reason why we moved back to the mainland from Hawaii to live near my parents. I want my kids to at least know one side of their family. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to bring family and friends together.

Helping Others this Thanksgiving

We're unable to travel this year. Instead of making Thanksgiving dinner, we're going to serve it to others at a shelter. That puts a lot of things into perspective and makes me thankful for what I have.

Condo Blues Green living and money saving tips http://condo-blues.blogspot.com/

I didn't grow up with

I didn't grow up with Thanksgiving so it always sneaks up on me and I tend not to give it the attention it merits with Americans. I can't decide whether I missed out on something or should count myself lucky not to have had another event where tensions run high. Fortunately, we have a very small family in the US so there's not so much drama.

Growing up POOR, gives you insight into the value:

of a dollar

of having warm clothing

of having regular meals

of having parents who show they care, despite that birthdays are simply cake and ice cream, maybe not a gift

of knowing that material things, once gained, can be lost and holding onto material things gives you no satisfaction

so hold onto your relationships

Well America may well as I have said previously begining to have to discuss the other as self... that is one of the things that is poignant in " Dreams from my father" Yes the difference btw language and commuication....Listening and Hearing chatter and genuine dialogue

Yum. Totally agree that this holiday's freedom from gifts ROCKS. Your recipe makes me hungry for day-after-thanksgiving sandwiches-- turkey, cranberry, stuffing. All the relatives are gone and I can eat in peace!

Why only on your fridge?

Although I appreciate that it's usually the first thing you really register seeing in the morning, we took it beyond the fridge and painted a strip of magnetic primer in our nursery. This will allow us to post memories to our new additions wall that won't fit on the fridge!

Now I want to go camera happy although, in this age of digital photography, my trouble is not storing the pics in boxes as I don't tend to print many out anymore.

Thanks for reading, Sarah Butland www.SarahButland.com

and made a video of all the stuff in my heart, on my fridge, and all over my house.
http://vimeo.com/7646597

Virginia DeBolt
BlogHer Technology CE | Web Teacher | First 50 Words

We Just Tidied Ours Up

And I hate it. I need more pictures and craziness. And artwork. And magnets that spell out naughty words. (What? We're the only adults that do that?)

I did leave up a picture from the newspaper of my husband fighting a fire, pictures of all three of my living children, the invitation to their party, the boys' newspaper clippings from their birthdays last year (to be replaced with their clippings from tomorrow and next Tuesday), their Christmas an Easter pictures, a few business cards, a picture of my best friend's son...

I guess there's still a lot there. I love having our life on the fridge door. Some people panic about fingerprints. I'd panic if there wasn't a billion and one things on our fridge door.

@FireMom from Stop, Drop and Blog and The Chronicles of Munchkin Land
