On the fence and scared

Had my first very young, and have been through single motherhood. Now married to phenomenal man who, surprise surprise wants us to have kids together. Ok. I knew this going into our marriage. Sometimes I'm really excited about it, and sometimes I'm scared out of pumps! There are days when I look at him and think about how much love our family has to offer a child and how much I miss my daughter, now 10, being a baby. There are a lot more days where I'm exhausted from work, tired of juggling and cannot imagine adding another child, no less an infant, to the mix.

It doesn't surprise me

Ya know...It doesn't surprise me that single people have less sex...Think about it...They have to really work to have sex.

My single girl friends have to get dolled up, and hit a bar that has other attractive, single men. (Half the battle right there!) And even if they do find a bar with attractive, single men, they then have to make eye contact and flirt and all that.

All married ladies have to do is turn to their partner and say, "Are you in the mood?"

Though it was a teen/college crowd space long before it was a family place. And teens need to learn that it's not just about them and their friends when they have family on their account too. Absolutely. I just kind of understand why he blocked his family after that.

Sassymonkey and Sassymonkey Reads.

My older kids started out with Live Journals and Myspaces and I didn't friend them there. They needed their space. Now, they're all on Facebook and they all friended me before I even had the chance to consider whether or not they would. I can even give my 19 year old a hard time about stuff I see on Facebook and have her friends come over and laugh at her mom giving her a hard time. She's cool with it all and so am I.

I also understood completely when she hesitated before friending her grandmother on facebook. She still hasn't friended her because while most of what she says and does there is fine, she doesn't want to risk troubling her grandmother when she puts a photo of herself wearing newspaper pasties and a skirt made of newspaper on her Facebook page.

~Denise BlogHer Community Manager
Flamingo House Happenings

Well, I got his mother's

Well, I got his mother's point. She could care less if he's swearing around his buddies. But the kid needed to learn that posting a status with the f-word was like saying it loudly in the middle of a family reunion while standing next to his grandmother. Eventually you learn that certain social places require certain behaviour. Unfortunately for some teens, facebook has become a social, often family realm, not just for teenagers anymore. If his facebook only included his friends, then whatever. Swear like a trucker, who cares!

Anyway, I never look at teenage profiles either, including my nephews. Most of their news is stuff I don't need to know! And I rarely looked at his unless he was posting family photos. But the status with the eff-word was there on all our newsfeeds, including his grandmother's, for everyone to see.

He got in trouble for swearing on Facebook? For real? Um, wow. Honestly, I'd probably block my family too if I were him.

My nephew and I are friends on Facebook but we largely ignore each other. I think we're both happier that way. I know I am. (Really, there's only so many "I love yooooouuuuuuuussss" between him and his girlfriend I can handle...and he's in his early 20s.)

Sassymonkey and Sassymonkey Reads.

My mom's turkey pot pie

My mom makes the best turkey pot pies. She makes them mini-sized. I've never had anything that comes close to them. She's coming to visit next week and I can't tell you how tempting it is to buy a turkey (they are all around since it's Canadian Thanksgiving) and make her spend a whole day teaching me to make them.

But instead I'll make her make her new biscuit recipe and write down what she's putting in because she doesn't measure and doesn't really use a recipe. She does it all by feel and makes the best biscuits I've ever had.

Sassymonkey and Sassymonkey Reads.

I am so glad your pup is doing okay! As you may have gathered I live surrounded by animals and their devotion and unconditional love is one of the greatest gifts in my world. I feel like the trust they have that I will take care of them is a solid contract and if I fail in any way, it breaks my heart. You must have been wrecked at first. Cheer's for his recovery and a long full life!

I scared a racoon out of a tree once

It was a mom with babies, I used the flash when I took a photo and it freaked her out. She took off with one baby in her mouth and spent the evening dragging each of her babies to a new tree across the street.

~Denise BlogHer Community Manager
Flamingo House Happenings

Thanks Holli for your thoughts. It's amazing because I had forgotten about this post and the pain is better. For the pup and even my memory of it all. THANK goodness time really heals.

I am happy to report that the old pup is getting around almost as good as before. No more pain meds and only a little hitch in his gait. I think it was time for him to slow up anyway. He's enjoying his golden years. All 5 of them, I hope!

http://raisedqueer.squarespace.com
