Regarding Google Wave

I was one of the early testers with Google Wave and have found that it serves two great purposes - inter-office collaboration and brainstorming. I use it for the later, myself. But as a complete mainstream "everyone-has-got-to-use-this" sort of tool, not so much.

Great article, by the way!

Renee Hendricks http://www.socialurl.com/reneehendricks

Amazon.ca is very limited

It's pretty much books, movies, cds and software. No MP3s or Kindle store. A few electronics. I saw something a few months ago about some electronics on Amazon.com being available for international purchase but I (personally) think it's too complicated to try to figure out whick ones qualify for that.

Sassymonkey and Sassymonkey Reads.

And just because it doesn't seem to be available in Canada (like so many things, sigh). I generally don't even set up one-click payments. It's too easy to impulse buy and it's something I try really hard to avoid. But I can see this being very useful for parents. Just set your teen up with an allowance and a password and let them pick out and order their own stuff.

If it was available in Canada (which it's not, alas) I'd be tempted by the mobile purchasing, at least for ebooks.

Sassymonkey and Sassymonkey Reads.

Fujifilm

Beyond the nostalgia angle, I have to admit that I'm a little perplexed by the interest in instant photos. However, Fujifilm just came out with a new instant film camera, the Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S, for only $85. The prints are about the size of a credit card, with an image area of 1.8- by 2.4-inches.

Wow - getting invited to re-connect with someone who passed on, now that is one very spooky email. Similar but not as bad as receiving a letter I wrote to a friend that was returned to sender (me) about 2 weeks after his funeral.....that was a sad moment indeed.

Paula Gregorowicz
The Paula G Company
http://www.thepaulagcompany.com

Learn 5 Steps to Move from Fear to Freedom (free)

Facebook Struggling To Deal With This

I had never even thought about this issue before reading your post, it was a real eye-opener. Coincidentally I have just been seeing some complaints regarding Facebook's "reconnect" feature they have been highlighting lately. People are complaining because Facebook is suggesting they 'reconnect' with people that have passed away. So clearly there needs to be a better mechanism in place to deal with this issue. Thanks for raising this issue and for the resources you provide.

Lucy

Totally agree on the Eerie thing, to a degree, nice memorial, but on the other hand....

And what happens if/when these sites sink in with longevity and there are more accounts/people affected with passing away. Just an interesting thought

Paula Gregorowicz
The Paula G Company
http://www.thepaulagcompany.com

Learn 5 Steps to Move from Fear to Freedom (free)

and stuck it in the note book that has my will and other legal documents. My kids know where this is, and they know how to find my passwords. I hope they can take care of things without too much hassle from a TOS agreement.

Virginia DeBolt
BlogHer Technology CE | Web Teacher | First 50 Words

See I don't get that at all

By that same standard they shouldn't like libraries stocking physical copies of the books either. Sure, copying a book on a computer isn't particularly difficult, even with DRM slapped on it (I wouldn't know, I've only read and it honestly doens't sound that difficult). But there's no guarantee that I'm not off scanning or photocopying the books I borrow from the library and distributing it to all my friends either. Sure, easier and faster online but no guarantees right?

I like e-books, though they'll never fully replace physical books for me. I hate restrictive DRM, andI don't think it stops pirating (or really slows them down) but just punishes people like me and a whole bunch of others who are honest and purchase legally (or legally borrow from the library) and then struggle to make them work with our devices. It makes me NOT want to use them.

Sassymonkey and Sassymonkey Reads.
