It Might Depend On Your Point of Entry or Not

I think if people are honest with themselves they know what resonates and what does not. Just as there is a range of intensity between believers I think an equal range of intensity exist between non-believers.

Just as I found some extremists of faith there are, perhaps, some wing nut Atheists too? I couldn't find any but you know, statistically speaking ;-)

Sometimes I see life as an ellipse; I move from point to point on some topics and stubborn on others. I wish that I could constantly go with the flow but that would invalidate my humanity.

If what worked for you at 20 does not get you through the night at 30 then that is a clue to a journey about to be taken.

The courageous part is to allow yourself the freedom to define what works for you and not be pressured into conformity for the sake of getting along.

(There are necessary laws, rules and exceptions to take into account. Like running down the street buck naked? no don't to that. We tried that in the 70s and well...no.)

Atheist here

Atheism is the only thing that has ever made any sense to me. I never went to organized church services until I was 15. Coming into it at that age, I just couldn't reconcile the obvious logical flaws in religion. (My foray was into Protestant Christianity, but I thought all religions probably suffered from the same flaws.)

I'm an atheist too. I haven't posted about it. Yet. I will read what these other wise people have to say before I chime in. All I know is that I find atheism to be extremely calming.

There where a couple of recent events that caused me to question the reactions/responses people have about the topic.

Something happens and some people go into a level of defensive engagement or back away like I just cut one loose.

We'll see how it goes. Thank you for reading.

I want to thank you for this post. You supplied many resourses for me to follow-up on. Its clear you've done a great deal of research on atheism and have put into words the simplicity of atheism.

Wow. Thanks for writing this........and for including The Boy and I in your article. Karen's post was awesome too, and I am so glad it is spreading. :) People can be so judgmental of anyone who is not what they consider to be "normal". They forget that their children are learning to be judgmental by their example...and that the people that they are staring at and whispering about have feelings. My son does not always notice the negative reactions, due to the nature of his Asperger's....but I do. And his four year old sister does. And watching him try to process it when he does notice is a heartbreak that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Invisible Needs & Invisible Illnesses

Great posts, info and views into the real life of mothers with children with special needs. Just read about September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month here. And Sept. 10 - 16 is National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week.

We must continue to spread the word about children and their families and how they fit into the equation of the disability advocacy movement.

Special Needs Children and Grandchildren

My life has been filled with care and concern for my special needs children, one son who is dyslexic, one son who is a paraplegic with MS and a grandchild who is austistic. I am confronted by many situations all the time with adults and children who have little to no communication skills along these lines. It's education and awareness training that is needed. I have a wonderful resource as a result of my work with www.unitedspinal.org, they produce a booklet called Disability Etiquette. I have an entire case of these and give them out freely. Great tips on interacting with people with many types of disabilities.

Download the United Spinal Disability Etiquette brochure at http://www.unitedspinal.org/pdf/DisabilityEtiquette.pdf.

What a great post.
I used to blog about our experiences with Autism, but had to pull the site because of negative comments. Wow, it's really great to read something on the subject from the outside that has a positive message. You're my hero today. Joie

Learning from each other is the first step in stopping these ridiculous accusations that there is such a thing as Mommy Wars. Educating each other and supporting each other--as you have done-- is a huge counterstrike in ending judgment and harshness among parents.

We could all use some education when it comes to things we may not fully understand.
