I decided to write a story element of a hypothetical discussion on my fiction blog. The link is to the piece, in part a discussion between two mums and their 15 year old daughter.

I think someone around here just fainted seeing my name in a sex thread. ;-)

I love your recommendation and how to approach developing a strong sense of self-governance, so vitial to do.

We didn't approach things this way, but dammit, wish we had. It still worked out fine with our two daughters, but I like the stripping of inhibition element as much as the 'this is my territory' part.

As someone who grew up with so many misconceptions, misperceptions, and misunderstandings about myself, along with a totality of ignorance on our bodies that borders on astounding, encouraging a comprehensive education and understanding from an early age is a beautiful thing.

I can't get friends my own

I can't get friends my own age interested in blogging...let alone my mom! I've got one, count her...one, offline friend who blogs.

One older travel writer I know (a second career for this writer in her 70s, after a long teaching career) has a couple of regional travel books and a publisher who would like her to have a blog--but she says it's something she doesn't have time for, and that maybe she'll do it when she "retires". Um....Er....

My mom finally decided she wanted a laptop computer, but I'm not sure if she's even tried turning it on by herself. My dad is pretty good about emailing and can find his way around the 'net all right. He's even ordered plane tickets and boarding passes online...but it pretty much ends there.

I can relate to the idea that I'm glad my parents have had the chance to travel a bit, but jealous and anxiously awaiting my turn to travel further afield :)

Hi Pam,

My mom enjoys traveling and has been to a lot of places. My dad bought the computer and enjoyed e-mailing me, but my mom never got used to "that machine in the office." It only comes to life when we visit and I'm blogging.

Boomer travel

I so know what you mean, Pam! My dad's retired now, and since he did so, he and my mom have gone to Indonesia and Bhutan, Cambodia and Vietnam. They're going to Israel in April, too. As the baby boomers begin to retire, I'll bet we're going to see more "senior" travel to interesting places (as compared to just golf resorts). Like you, I feel at once very happy that they finally get to see the places they've wanted to, and yet also a bit jealous too. In a good way.

Too bad my parents' writing is dry as a bone, or I'd ask for some guest posts on Suite101! Senior travel is an area that's really about to pop into the consciousness of the travel and tourism industry.

Wonderful Information

As a young lady growing up in this age of technology, things like "sexting" has become too common. I often discuss these situations with my peers and associates. There are many sites that exploit young girls and their private pictures. Internet "get-rich-quick" sites sometimes allow one to receive money for hacking image hosting accounts or exploiting pictures shared between two people.

I am glad that this campaign has been started and I'll be sure to support this 100%.

What will you try to teach your kids about money?

Interesting post! We never really talked about money in my house growing up (except for in the abstract, like, "What would you do if you won the lottery?"), but I was still constantly aware of it: how little (or much - depending on the year) we had, what we were allowed to splurg on, what we had to cut back on, etc. There was this time when my dad lost his job and he made me play "the coupon game," where we'd compete to find the best coupons in our local paper. Looking back, it's only now that I realize how scary our economic situation must have been to my parents at that time.

I think that overarching knowledge that money wouldn't always be there (something it doesn't seem like many kids get these days) helped me deal with my own financial struggles later in life. I hope I can pass that on to my children without making them fearful of how fleeting money can be. Not TOO fearful, at least!

money is not above of all

As I mention in the subject, that I think money is not above of all. There are more important things rather than money matter. Like praying, family, and neighbourhood. Praying, as we are religion person, we need to pray to our god. Family, as we have a family, we must keep our family in good condition. Neighbourhood, as we are social human, we must keep friendship with our neighbourhood around us. Then we become a good person in the sight of our family and the others.

Success is my right, your right, and everyone
