One of my biggest fears

Taking a long car trip with my little ones is one of my biggest fears. Mostly because when my daughter was a baby and young toddler she screamed all the time in the car. She wouldn't even sleep, and I still carry that trauma to this day. Which is a shame, because there are a lot of places I would like to go which are just about the right distance to be reached via a long drive.

These are great tips you've given here, I'm feeling inspired. Maybe this summer I'll work up the courage to give a car trip a try. ;-)

We travel a lot with our two kids, both under 5. I have found that pulling out a new toy every so often REALLY works. In addition, we go out to the dollar store or Target and pick up a few new toys or items, cheap things like a dollar coloring book, some markers, etc, and hand them out in between older toys. We did this on flights when we lived cross country from family.

We also stop at a play area for lunch if we are taking an all day trip. The kids get out and run around, we eat and relax for a while, then pile back in for the afternoon - the youngest sleeps during this time, and I usually give the oldest a special treat, like a lollipop, that she doesn't usually get at home.

I hated writing at school, so writing never came up as something I would do.

But I too am an observer and from my observing I am left with questions and my questions want to go somewhere and thus I write on a blog.
To explain what I have observed, to vent my questions and to draw people into my observations and with the hope that this will lead to us doing things differently.

I never saw that as writing, until it was pointed out to me that is what I do all day.
Now I observe and question "Am I a writer?"

I probably am and of course everybody does it better than me.
I do observe that in myself and I have plenty of questions about that as well :)

I agree about your translating perception; in fact my slogan on my blog is 'transcribing life's stories as it dictates them.'

I compose sentences on a regular basis. I also think that the reason 'crazy' thing happen to me is so that I can retell them.

We are writers because we can't not be.

I love your reflection that you are a writer because you are a thinker. For me, I guess i know that I am a writer because it is always the thing that draws me. I am always composing phrases in my head and thinking about my life not only as the thing that is lived, but as the thing that can be translated and transferred via words to others.

I can relate to what you're saying. I think that your husband is admired so much because your kids only get two hours with him a night, so it's always quality time. It's the scarcity effect. Since you're them all the time, they unintentially will take it for granted. You probably discipline them more than your husband as well for the mere fact that you're with them more.

I commend you for all you do for your kids, it's more than a lot of moms do. You seem to really love your children. Don't worry, they will learn to appreciate all you do for them when they are old enough to understand, or when they start dating and start seeing what other women are like.

Keep up the great work. Your husband seems to appreciate you which is very important.

I can see how it could lose its appeal with too many followers etc. I find I only really talk to a handful of people (although I am still kinda new)... but I still go on every day to see what's going on in the twitter world.... although I dont know how some people keep up with convo all day long, my 2 little ones dont make that possible for me... I end up replying to tweets hours later
