I so wanted to view Christine's blog that you annotated above, but the link kept telling me that internet explorer could not open it.

Do you have an updated address for her blog??

Good post! Thank you for

Good post! Thank you for sharing! I'm not sure why, but with age, we seem to lose our courage, or motivation. Is it because we haven't seen results already? Your post reminds me of one I just posted on my Bathrobe Therapy blog- http://bathrobetherapy.blogspot.com/2009/02/someday-will-never-come.html

This year I think I have the necessary mindset--I determined in my mind to reach a goal that I desperately want to reach. I am praying, and working toward this goal.

Rites of Passage

Time does fly. I cannot believe that my oldest son is already 4 yrs old. I went through major rites with him. His potty training seemed to last forever but now it has finally arrived. It took him a long time to fully be trained and he still, rarely but still has had accidents (number 2). I tried the pressure tactic, didn't work, the incentive tactic (worked a little), the punishment tactic (not recommended, does not work). In the end he went when he wanted to.

I now have a 3 week old and I know that I will be going through it all over again. I will try desperately to be more cool about it this time. Who cares that his cousin is already potty trained and younger than him....

When I finally gave up, was when he finally gave in.

I love that photo. It's great!

I did an album for years, but it fell apart in the past couple of years when I had a crazy toddler. I printed a bunch of photos from the 'missing years' and I'm hoping to pick it up again this year.

Karen you so can manage the

Karen you so can manage the December album, don't forget Ali advocates simplicity. All you really need is some cardstock, a good pen or two and your photos :)

I'm doing one as well (although I'm behind already!), but apart from that we will do our usual traditions which are a mix of Caribbean (sorrel, punch-a-creme, black cake) and French (foie gras, oysters). Last year we made a gingerbread house for the first time and we plan to do that again this year. Hmm, all our traditions seems to be food related! I'm also making an effort to do as many handmade decorations and gifts as possible and I have a series of step by step tutorias posted here http://francineclouden.typepad.com/tuesday_todo

Lovely photo as usual! :)

Such great ideas!

I have to say, with the economy the way it is (not to mention my recent leaving of a nice steady paycheck!), these ideas are so amazing for handmade gifts. There are several children I have yet to purchase gifts for -- perhaps treasure hunts and the reading of classic stories are just the thing. Thank you so much for the ideas!

Procrastination has a good side

Two years ago, when I should have been working on my masters, I recorded the entire "the hobbit" by reading it out loud with apropriate voices and sound effects. Then I put some nice apropriate music with it to bring out the atmosphere - and gave a copy to each of my family. They all loved it.

Ok so maybe you dont have that much time to toy with recording, but even recording a short story would be cool.

I'm sure what I did was illegal though. I am finding copies of my recordings spreading around as well, as friends with kids are listening to them. Some of the kids think I'm the author too :)

Hand made Games for Christmas

I love the idea of hand made anything the family can do together. I got a fun idea out of Nancy Kruse's book, "Treasure Hunt-A Book of Clues for Parties" to do with the family this Christmas. When you talked about taking photographs, you gave me a GREAT idea to add to this. I like the idea of using photographs as part of the clues to find the next clue. Thank you! Treasure Hunts have always been a BIG hit with parties that I have been to, it is something that can involve everyone.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you!

I have different images in front of me since my congregation celebrates the holidays in a Catholic Church. It's always odd to note that we keep getting up and then resting our feet on the kneeling stool. Differences. Our shofar blower is 83 and he did the strongest tekiah gedolah in years yesterday. I hope it really will usher in a good year.

Glad to know they're still playing

Thanks for saying that kids are doing this at school or in the house. I think it really depends on where you live. A lot of my younger friend who have younger kids say that their kids don't play those kind of face-2-face games any more. Perhaps it dependings on the neighborhood you live in.

They do them at school or in the house. But yes, playing outside was FUN.

Great post, brings back memories - though I never did quite get the boy crazyness, just sort of went along like I did. ;-)
