I fell into the belief that Seniors were totally against it because of the misinformation that is being dispensed in senior publications, the media and other outlets.

Actually the only Elders I've seen on video are the ones yelling at the Town Meetings or at Tea Party demonstrations.

I'm worried that we are fracturing ourselves and on the verge of health care self destruction.

I think we have to continue to be light bringers to the topic.

When Your Parent Moves In

I agree with this story! I wrote a book with Shira Block titled "When Your Parent Moves In" I started the project out of necessity as my mother in law moved in.

I learned the wonderful lesson about accepting her as a member of the family and not seeing her as a guest in our home!

The book is on Amazon and in Barnes and Noble.

I totally forgot to add books to the gift ideas under $50 maybe because my mom doesn't read hardly anymore. But books definitely should be on the list. Good catch!!

I was chatting with one of my older relatives yesterday and was told that the perfect gift would be an Amazon.co.uk gift card just like last year. That's easy! Books surely keep the brain active - I'm fortunate that my older relatives love to read :-)

Care giving, getting older, assisted living, independent living, senior living, Alzheimer's facilities, Board and care homes...

I find this thread to be quite interesting and scary at the same time as these are questions I'm going through at the moment both personally and professionally.

These are all different kinds of decisons we have to make for ourselves as we are getting older but also for our loved ones if the topic hasn't been discussed in advance.

There is a website about free assisted living referral services which has some information about most of these topics and is related to helping us women deal with these very important yet very difficult decisions.

I hope the information in there helps you as much as it helped me.

I found through experience that senior referral services (which are free) are of great help as they deal with this situation daily.

They usually can provide all kinds of help with: how to approach the subject with your loved ones, dealing with the guilt all the way to prices, availability and geographical location.
