Incredible coverage

OK - finally caught up on your coverage of BWB, Megan! While I am totally jealous that you got to cover this conference, I deeply appreciate the fabulous work you've done to help us all experience the event vicariously.

Gina and her work are impressive. I love how it sounds like she's created a space for learning, community, friendship and respect to all come together. It makes perfect sense that BlogHer would support such an event.

I really hope to be there next year. Third year, three's a charm... right?

Written for me?

I felt like these two posts were written either for or about me - or both! I've thought of myself as a writer wannabe since I was 12 and I am 45 now and have only a small handful of short stories to show for it (actually, most I've lost or deleted), for many of the same reasons you named. I started a blog recently to get my rusty writing pipes flowing and now, of course, I focus on that instead of writing fiction. But I'm giving myself a break, and just doing what I can do, for now, and hope that soon I'll be overflowing with story ideas (that I'll actually write down). Thank you!

The Power of LinkedIn!

Hi Holly, great question! I have been an entrepreneur and self-employed since 1999! So some tips on LinkedIn:
1 - make sure it is CLEAR that you are a business owner- to many self-employed consultants put their contracts as separate employment that hurts not helps.
2 - The summary section needs to be key-word rich - that is how LinkedIn's powerful search engine helps people finds what they are looking for. It is critical that in that section your message (what you want to write and publish about) and expertise are extremely clear. Publishers aren't into unclear purpose!
3 - Publishers are people too and networking works. I did not pitch them, I build relationship with them.

I read Eat Pray Love in federal prison and I remember thinking how profoundly moved I was by her story. I remember thinking we all have stories...

What keeps us from writing our stories is what keeps us from living the lives of dreams...US, we are in our own way. We self edit, we make excuses. We are afraid.

This got me thinking about my own big giant life story and how to tell it. How to share it.

Hhhmmm....

Thank you Ann for your comment. My question to you is how did the publisher come to approach you on linkedin? What was your background before? Would you recommend approaching publishers if you're a blogger?
