I was so glad I made that video.

My grandma pulled through her pneumonia while I was in California but believe me when my mom called and said it was precarious I was even happier that I'd sat down and had the recorded conversation with her before I left. As much as people can say technology separates, one of the things I'm most excited about is the ability to record and share stories/history/family/culture like never before.

I'll check it out. I've read that one at least five times (and saw the musical version last year. It was very good.)

I was a fan of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books too (not so much the television series).

Ramona forever

Yup Ramona is the best. I only discovered her when I was already grown up, but I think she really apeals to all ages :)

And Mary as well. You might like this - I found a really nice audio recording of the secret garden here http://www.audiobooksforfree.com/details/Childrens/2000095/Secret-Garden

You can download it for free at a low bitrate, or pay a couple of dollars for a better quality recording. I loved this telling, the lady who reads it really seems to enjoy the story

Ramona The Pest

My favorite as a child (and still one of my faves) is Ramona the Pest from the series by Beverly Cleary. I identified with her as a young girl. She was smart and independent and definitely did things her own way.

I just wrote a little story for Christmas on our story site featuring my character Emily, a smart, independent young girl.

http://www.storyrhyme.com/stories/originals/emilys_christmas_gifts/index.html

Mary from The Secret Garden and Sarah from The Little Princess are also favorites. Both books by Francis Hodgson Burnett.

StoryCorps

I did a StoryCorps interview with my 97-year old mom in September '07 -- it was a very powerful experience. A segment of it was aired on NPR -- you can listen to it here. The whole interview took 30 minutes -- when Mom was done, she said, "The End! Let's get some lunch!" while I was busy snuffling and wiping the tears from my eyes.

I hope there will be more

I hope there will be more bloggers or Chinese bloggers who can share with the rest of the world how the Chinese in China see, think, or feel. I know there are many Chinese brothers and sisters who live in many other countries. I also know that many of them are "more westernized than many western people." For example, some of the best bloggers who have helped share China with the West are Western people who live in China or travel to China often.

I also know many Chinese people in the West also do not like China or are ashamed of their brothers and sisters in China.

I hope everyone can better understand each other and why we are different but also the same. Many people do not agree on many things, but that is okay. I think the important thing is that people try to understand each other and understand that we are all people too.

Chinese blogger as in From China or Chinese descent?

Many people who are of Chinese descent, but were born and/or raised in the west have a western outlook in life. Are we included? Even if we're more westernized than many western people?

You always take your stories to places

that I'm afraid to go with mine.

I'm beginning, with these lessons, to see how you do it. Thanks.

Do you ever pull events out of order because they fit better that way?

I'm posting my list and writing for me. I"ll actually do it if I post here.

People

Me Used to teach voice and piano
CJ the little boy who lives next to us
Cj's dad-(No one knows where he is)

Events
CJ's family singing karaoke-badly
We all went swimming
We ate dinner but I didn't invite CJ

Observations
I guess it's better to sing together than watch TV
It must be hard to be the only kid in a family full of babies and grown-ups
How hard would it be to include one more kid?

I had troubles logging in to BlogHer all week, finally realized it was my Mac, so I'm borrowing my neighbor's machine to make do.

The thing is, I think most of these columns will end up having more of a philosophical sort of "lesson" as opposed to a practical one over time. So index cards are just one of those things that I use that maybe others use that maybe don't work for everyone. Hopefully you will take away something cool in the future. : )
