I am quite fond of this

I am quite fond of this poem, "Everything is beautiful from a Distance". I am not quite sure what's captured my interest, except for the eloquent writing and the distinctive imageries that you've projected. It seems honest and as close to human reasoning and nature as one could possibly get.

just wanted to stop and say - great post, I think a lot of us have moved from Sylvia to Anne (and back again!)

~Denise BlogHer Community Manager
Flamingo House Happenings

I Would Have Love Seeing Anne Perform With Her Band

I learned reading the biographies that later in her career she hired a rock band to provide music behind her poems. Just from the video clip you can see she knew how to work an audience or a camera.

So much of our history lost.

Love Sexton! Love Plath!

Love Sexton! Love Plath! I love that these pioneers wrote down the raw honesty about mental illness, depression, abortion, lovers, and mostly, about being women in the 50's whom were misunderstood and disregarded. I would have adored having a glass of wine with Sexton just talking about Life, Sex, & Poetry. I think she would have been my kind of girl! Great article!

Transformations

Oh, Transformations--Sexton's re-interpretation of the Grimm fairytales--is one of my most favorite volumes of poems. Her examination of the freakish terrors inside our psyches, and of the way that stories are woven through the culture and into our own experiences, changed everything for me. Thanks for reminding me of her tonight.

Thank you for sharing these paths that have worked for you, Candelaria! Keep moving forward and tackle a little bit (of grieving, of dealing, whatever needs to be done) each day. Excellent and really doable key insights.

Faith, experience, sharing with others, going deep inside, reviewing what I've already survived, walking, meditating, dancing, etc., help me continue moving. Wallowing/inertia puts me too deep in the hole. I always say to myself, "Okay, you can't control or have this...what can you do? Then I do what I can." When I was devastated by a break up years ago that I didn't see coming, I did two things - took long walks every day and allowed myself to think about him for 10 minutes per day and that was it. This also worked with a devastating financial situation some years back - I walked, I faced it a little bit each day, and eventually that cloud moved on.

Thanks for sharing.

"It takes a village" to raise up a woman. I cannot imagine getting through life without the help of beloved friends, all of us giving, each to another. For me, faith steps in as well. Prayer helps me know that I am not alone, and lets me lean in on God when I need to lean hard and heavy.I'm not sure if I'll be a blossom or an ear of corn or a weed, but I know I'll be something that grows :-)

I get by with help from friends.

Maria,

What a timely and perfect topic! In the past couple years-with personal changes coming at me from every direction- I have finally learned that the best way to push through a challenge is to rely on the help of friends.

I have chosen to line up people and talk to them about my goals. Ask for their support, guidance, feed back or occasionally just a non-judgemental ear.

Do not know why I took so long to give in to the idea. Trusting other people has always been hard for me. But learning to trust has helped me grow in so many ways.

I am glad things are now chipper for you! Aside from comments of concern, I thought this was well written. I am new to writing here, so I like to read everyone's posts especially under the poetry section. Trying to write better myself, taking in everyone's choice of words, imagery, content. I know it's about being lonely but I liked the way you expressed yourself. Thanks for sharing. Cole
