Leftovers

Did you make this?

We love this recipe and were invited out for Thanksgiving and knew we wouldn't be eating it--so we doubled up on our favorite holiday this year and made a pre-Thanksgiving dinner, dinner. Now we have our own leftovers including leftover Chestnut stuffing! How many of you do this too so you can have leftovers if you've been elsewehere?

Xo Roz

Yum. Totally agree that this holiday's freedom from gifts ROCKS. Your recipe makes me hungry for day-after-thanksgiving sandwiches-- turkey, cranberry, stuffing. All the relatives are gone and I can eat in peace!

for the veg-heads, too

I use the roasting method to make veggie broth for my daughter, too, and it's SO much better than simmering. Much more flavorful.

Plus I can leave it all day and not have to check on it!

Ohhhh, soup. Forgot to mention that. Possibly my favorite part of post-Thanksgiving!!

If you've never made broth via roasting the bones, try it this year. I'm a convert. :)

I think

that my husband should read this. Seriously? There is absolutely no need for 8 side dishes at any meal, holiday or not. Waste of money. And! After the first 3 bites it all tastes the same. Spread it out over the week and actually enjoy each one.

I also save the carcass to make soup. I learned at BlogHer this summer that you should save all of the bones-yes, even the ones that have been gnawed on!-for the broth. Definately a tip that I'm now using.

Our tradition

Whomever hosts the dinner in a given year, is basically only responsible to provide the turkey. Everyone else is to bring a dish. It's really a great thing for the host/hostess b/c it allows them the extra time to prepare for guests. And not just one person is footing the bill for dinner.

BTW, I'm crossing my fingers that I get picked to bring stuffing this year.....just tried out a new recipe from my sis and can't wait to dazzle my family. Heehee!

http://raisedqueer.squarespace.com

you haver compileed some informative sites here. At home, I usually recycle home decors or furnitures that are no longer used and make them into something useful or trendy, in that way, we no longer have to buy new decorations evrytime we decide to recorate or renovate. With a little creativity you can make old unused things into a new piece of decor or furniture and there's no need to buy a new 0ne.

Closed? For the whole summer???

That's horrible! What about summer reading programs? And internet access for people who don't have it at home? And people who just wants books!

Just thinking about it is making me need to lie down.

Yes, I'm lucky

I mostly order books from the closest one but I like being able to return books at any of them. I try to walk daily and I can return books based on how much of a walk I'm doing: 20 minutes to the 2nd cloest, 1/2 hour to the other two. If I wanted to take public transportation - a whole other world of libraries open up.

I'm unhappy to report that the libraries will be closed this summer. I overheard the librarian telling this to a parent over the phone about 45 minutes ago. Bummer.

Honestly, I'm rarely in my library aisles

Even though I take out lots of books I'm rarely in the aisles. I usually request everything I needed online and then just pick it up, sometimes pausing in front the express shelf. When I was computerless for awhile I used to go to the library to use their internet, and while I used to wander the aisles sometimes it wasn't something I did a lot. (Again, the online reserves.)

Four libraries in walking distance?!

That's awesome! When we were looking for this apartment one of my requirements was that it had to be walking distance to a library. But four!!! Wow!

Do you always go to the closest one? Or do you go to different ones for different things?
