I am going to try it again, and I will let you know if i have anymore problems, Safari crashed not long after so it could have just been random browser brokenness that caused the problem! :)

It's lovely that you tried to re-invent his junky dinners from the past into a healthy one.
:)

My dad adores seafood so if I were to impress him on Father's Day, I would steam Sri Lankan crabs with Chinese rice wine, huge abalone drowned in oyster sauce and garlic, and a large roast duck. Yeah, I come from a Chinese family and my dad's pretty traditional where food is concerned — he can't do without Chinese food for a day even when he's travelling. Thank goodness it's such a ubiquitous cuisine!

Genetics play a part

I really believe that some people have the biscuit gene, and others don't. Fortunately, I have a friend who grew up on a farm in Ireland and is a biscuit person. She's taught me her technique, but mine never taste quite as good as hers. I lack the gene for it!

Whole Wheat, Baby!

I have a great recipe for shallot-herb whole-wheat biscuits. I make them in a round like savory scones as well as dropped into muffin tins for individual biscuits. Tender, delicious and much healthier with the whole wheat.

Yummy!

Biscuits do sound delicious right now - perhaps it's the summertime that brings on the craving. As for me, the recipes I keep running into are for sopapillas. Now, I'm all for making things from scratch, but I tell you, the best tasting sopapillas I've made thus far are from a mix. Quaker's Tortilla Mix, actually. There's a recipe for them on the side. And they are great sprinkled with powdered sugar and dipped in honey and butter. I've eaten them 3 days in a row now.

Perhaps it's time I move on to biscuits.

Denise -- I'm in Glenview too. The amazing Viking store/school is on the ABT property, adjacent to a lunch/dinner cafe, Jolane's, with two of life's greatest indulgencies: Wait, make that three...

Viking Culinary Arts Center

There is also a Viking Culinary Arts Center in St Louis, Mo. I taught there for years until it was bought out by someone else. Apparently the original owners have since purchased it back. Beautiful school.
