I thought I was the only one who wanted to run away. I am brand new to this site, so I am looking for other women whose lives are as crazy as mine. I live in Columbia, SC, and I need someone to talk to about the things that women handle on a daily basis. Thanks, Ashley

Speaking of Uninsured...

We are an uninsured family.

Well the kids have insurance through the Illinois AllKids program. Blago revamped it and made it more widespread, accessable, and easy to apply for ... so I was never able to hate him entirely. We pay $80/month and the kids get to go to doctors that accept public aid. It's great, because one of my girls is going to an eye specialist with a referral from the eye doctor and we won't have to pay a cent for any of the visits. Not even a co-pay. We make sure they get checkups because they're required for preschool.

For the husband and I, we're happy we have an amazing free clinic nearby. While we don't get services for free (again, we make way too much money) we top out the sliding scale at $25/visit. I've never thought to ask if they do checkups..it's more of an "urgent but not emergency" type of facility...but they might. I'll have to ask because the husband is not getting annual checkups.

Thankfully I got all my standard bloodwork done, as well as a physical, by my midwife. Another great alternative for the uninsured crunchy soon-to-be-mama - a $3500 homebirth instead of $15,000 hospital birth.

Hi Lisa. Very happy to be the "angel" in this scenario, and happy you won't be putting off those checkups any longer.

Got serious at 40

Hi Catherine; For some reason I was not the least bit interested about my health in terms of blood pressure, cholesterol and trigliceride levels. The moment I turned 40, something clicked inside and I simply decided it was time I knew.

I started getting regular pap smears every year in February. It was a welcome relief to know that I was doing my part to know my numbers.....and I don't think Dr. Oz had anything to do with it!

My sister on the other hand has been putting it off for 16 years now. I feel bad for her, not knowing what is going on in the various areas of female health. She is a smoker, likes her drinks and eats terribly. I thinks she's afraid of knowing. She just turned 46 last week and I think she owes it to herself (and her 3 kids) to know what status her health is......there might be a problem and with enough lead time, she could have it dealth with....but she's her own person.

I, on the other hand, will be 50 at the end of this year and I plan to be in the best health ever!!!

Cheers,

Catherine, I can't tell if you're the angel or the devil...

on my shoulder! :) I have been putting off visits to the doctor, to the dentist, to the dermatologist for (dare I admit it?) a couple of years. Life gets away from you, right? The good news is that everyone else in my family has been taken care of and seen all health care folk regularly, so I'm doing right by them. But reading this I feel like a case study of what not to do.

So, verdict's in, you're an angel. Now I need to get off my overdue a** and get in there! Thanks Catherine.

A "cleanse" can be deadly for those who have GI disorders - symptoms of which can often cause one to think a cleanse might help.

Consult with your doctor please before one.

A lot to digest there...

when I should be headed for bed, or at least a bit of reiki.

I hope this post draws more attention and responses, especially since this one will be rather lame... but it is so very important a subject.

Reproductive health is an esential element of the discussion, so much can be done in this regard.

There is a huge wish list on health care, but flipping from now to full bore change is probably a non-starter, so the next logical way is progression, incrementally.

We have to get everyone covered. I'm open on how care is funded and paid for. There are market mechanisms that can be used without a single payor government system, and if my brain had time and was not shutting down, I could outline some of those possibilities.

Education ties into everything, because this is the engine that makes it all work, that makes us and takes us into an effective health system as willing and active participants. It has to start early, and not be reactive.

I could outline lots of things that are wrong with the system, from drug manufacture and promotion to end care.

In this economic climate, we actually have great opportunity and not diminished opportunity, and I hope... hope the new administration recognises that opportunity.

I like that they listen, but listening and turning away is not empathy, and empathy for each other is what we need to get this done.

Off to bed, will ponder this some tomorrow.

Holding my breath with you.....

Hi Adriamanda,

Good that you saw the doctor and your u/s sounds like it went well. Although it's great you have lining on your left side, what about the right? It's also sounds like she was able to break up some scar tissue in your cervix, which is why you were able to have a period!! Believe me, I know that relief SO well. I went 16 months without a period and when it finally came back I was overjoyed! I never thought I'd say that about my period! LOL! You are right if your period was able to get out then something can go in but I would still question your doctor about the right side of your uterus. In your original blog you mentioned needing to have corrective surgery but now it sounds like the doctor is telling you to ttc without the surgery. Pregnancy with AS can be really scary and the risks of m/c are high. So, be careful and make sure you question her about everything!! I know you want to have a baby really bad - as do I. But do make sure you are okay first. How did the follow up u/s go??

Hi Lori - Thanks for following up. It's wonderful & uplifting to know you care & took the time and interest to follow-up. It means very much to me. The procedure itself went well. It was with the actual doctor rather than the nurse practitioner, and I felt more at ease. She went in and found that my lining on the "left side" looked good. She broke thru what was blocking my cervix and she did find a tiny polyp which she removed right there with the curette. She says we caught my cycle just right & that she is optomistic that I will regrow some more healthy lining without meds. She said, "You could get pregnant as early as this month, so get busy." Wow! (I ovulate about Thursday this week) But I am still very much cautiously reserved. (I'm scared to death that my hopes are up too early, & maybe they are but God works in mysterious ways) I did, I will admit, buy some pregnancy magazines (just in case, 'cause hope never dies). The one thing that was I was hopeful about, & I don't care if its gross or not, but I bled! For over four days. It's amazing what over a year without a period can do to a girl. And well, if its coming out, it can go in?!?! I'm crossing my fingers, holding my breath. We go for a follow-up US tomorrow. More to follow. I'm not ruling out a long fight, but I'm sure hopeful.

Checking in on you

Hi - I just wanted to check in on you as I know you were going in for your Saline u/s and I wanted to see how it went and what the RE said.

I hope your doing well and what you learned from the u/s has helped you. You should really have a diagnositic hsyteroscopy to see how bad the scarring is and where its located. That is really the best diagostic tool because the doctor is actually able to visualize the inside of your uterus. The Saline u/s is helpful but not at giving the severity, etc.

Take care and I hope to see your update soon!

I am so touched

Thank you all for your comments and kind advice. I feel so much more empowered with all the knowledge I've gained (still quite naive, but I'm learning). It's going to be long journey but WOW, I never thought so many people would be listening to the ramblings of a desperate, hormonal woman. Thanks a million!!!

So, my Saline US is tomorrow. I will find out more then, I hope. I feel like everytime I go to the RE I get more and more confused. The first time I went, my uterus was scarred at the top and bottom. The second time, maybe not so bad, maybe my cervix is the most affected. But I'm starting to look at it like this, everytime I go, we learn more, and it's just one step closer to a baby (for once, my man and I are both just as clueless regarding my reproductive system!). I've been on Ashermans.org to research but I think I will take your advice and join the group. This condition is so rare but I see now that are there are women from all over the globe who know what it's like. My friends and family really don't understand the significance of Asherman's and how it can impact one's life. It sounds so simple to cure, just a couple snips & some meds, but it's not that simple, and really it's something that needs to be monitored thru childbearing years and sometimes beyond. Generally, I think people take for granted their fertility. I know I did, until infertility was something I had to deal with. It's so much more than a physical condition, it's an emotional one too, and I think that's the toughest part of the journey. You can try to heal the body, but the heart never forgets.

Thanks again & God bless! You are all in my prayers! Update to follow.

~*~ Adriamanda ~*~
