for your support and insight. You girls are truly wonderful. Thanks for the small boost in confidence and the little kick in the arse to make sure I don't stop creating. Grannysu, your words are a gem. I really never thought of it that way. When my writing differs or wavers in tone I think its not good enough and I'm not being consistent. You've opened my eyes.

Your voice is there, you just need to hear it

Granny Sue Stories from the Mountains and Beyond www.grannysu.blogspot.com susannaholstein@yahoo.com

I can hear you, and that is what voice is--others being able to hear you. In your own head, you echo.

But for those of us who read your post, your voice is clear and lyrical.

You may not write in the same way every day--but don't we all have moods? Today I'm introspective, tomorrow I'm manic, the next day practical. Should I write only when I feel one way or the other? I don't think so--all those moods have a voice, and I am not one-dimensional. So today I write a poem that is soft and emotional, tomorrow I write a chic-lit story, and perhaps in between I write a practical how-to blog. All of those are my voice; all express the many facets of me.

Isn't it all your voice?

Your voice comes through in the posts I have read. It seems as though quite a few mommy bloggers are feeling this way lately. I think we all go through periods of uncertainty and feelings of inadequacy. I have to say though that I think your voice is beautiful. To extend the metaphor, whether you have a sore throat, a nasal cold or are singing that perfect note that you practiced over and over, it's all your voice. At least, it is in my mind. I've written many posts that I go back to and think... my goodness, why did I write THAT? But at the end of the day, I keep them and I keep going knowing that there will be days where I am not at my best because it's all me.

Go to your local library and view some manuscripts. I find it fascinating to see all the corrections, all the notes in the margin, all the discarded versions... Visit an art museum and look at the sketches, the practice, the angles, the effort put into one final painting. At the end of the day, they are all part of the artist's "voice". Your voice can not be defined by a perfect product, it is far richer and more complex...

All I know is I like hearing it all. Keep writing!

Don't stop writing,

Don't stop writing, though! Sometimes, we think it's not our voice - only to come back later and recognise that it is.

Don't assume that you can't be a mother, and have a creative life at the same time.

I think your voice is strong and lovely.

These tips are for any new blogger. I enjoy casual writing. Writing that is written for everyday people to understand. I also get inspiration from those who write about things that they enjoy.

These tips are very helpful for people who want to do conversational writing such as blog posts. What kinds of writing do you like to do? Are there writers that particularly inspire you?
