Use a Glass

At work, I am an eviro-rebel -- I drink water from an orphan water glass I brought from home. I fill it with water from the kitchen tap or water fountain and easily wash it when it's dirty.

Reusable water bottles

Love the idea of resuable water bottles..... just don't like stainless steel ones. They leave a bad taste in my mouth and are bulky to carry around. Check out these collapsible, re-usable water bottles ---- www.perfectbottles.com --- they're environmentally friendly and free of Bi-sphenol A. And believe it or not, they collapse to the size of a hocky puck so you can just collapse them, toss them in your purse/gym bag/etc and then pop them open and fill them when you need them. So cool!

that's really useful info - about possibly needing to wash those bottles. Did not know!

To a Sigg bottle and then a big plastic bottle of water at home. It's not as good as having like a Brita, but I do love my spring water.

Mixed thoughts on reusing basic plastic bottles

I've heard some mixed messages about the safety of reusing the kind of plastic water bottles you'd buy at a convenience store or grocery (Dasani, Aquafina, etc. - PET plastic). There were several studies done that suggested bacteria could be cultivated in refilling the bottles because they weren't made of naturally antibacterial materials. Of course, some have called the methodology of those studies into question as well.

Not surprisingly, the plastic companies say there is no harm, but they also add the caveat that you would need to wash the bottles with hot, soapy water before refilling. Honestly, if you're having the kind of day where you've run out of the house without you usual refillable water bottle, who is going to go look for a clean bathroom with some nice, hot soapy water before refilling the bottle at a water fountain or tap?

That's the only reason I prefer to stick to Sigg and the BPA-free Nalgene bottles - because they are made of plastic that is more resistant to bacterial when refilled throughout the day, saving me the trouble of trying to find somewhere to wash my PET bottle or risk getting (yet another) cold or illness.

Love your posts, keep it up!

Stainless Steel Bottles are Great

We ditched water bottles this year. I bought (actually asked for and got!) a stainless steel one for carrying water here and there and I fill it up every morning before we leave the house. I use a filter on our tap water and viola! It's perfect. A little big, maybe, and heavier than the plastic bottle, but I'm glad to be helping out the environment this way!

Pretty SIGGs

SIGG is one of the only types I haven't tried yet. They sure have pretty designs. Glad to hear they are durable too. :) Oh, and that was a great Christmas present idea. Kudos.

I've had a SIGG bottle for almost four years and adore it. This Christmas I gave them as gifts to seven friends/family members. They are so durable!

straight up tap water

I drink it straight from the tap, but the husband prefers filtered so he installed a separate filtered tap, which has worked well so far.

My big peeve is counter food service that still pushes bottled water - there should be water at every fountain station, everywhere.

I resolved to drink reusable and am saving money too

I drink a ton of water every day. I seriously drink like 6 24oz bottles a day, and I finally got tired of spending needless money on disposable water bottles, plus I felt so wasteful. This last month I really made a consious effort to take my disposable water bottle w/ me everywhere I go and I have seriously saved. On a road trip home over the holidays I took my water bottle w/ me to Idaho. I even filled up at the water faucet at a gas station (cleaner gas station), when we filled up on gas.

Now, I work for Aladdin, who makes these reusable water bottles, so I had extra motivation, but I have really found it to be super easy and am feeling really good about my resolution.

For those concerned about BPA we have a BPA free water bottle. Its a great size too. 24 oz. Check it out: http://www.aladdin-pmi.com/shop/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=10-00749-004

My Water's from the Tap

Here in Canada our government released a statement declaring bisphenol A a harmful substance. There's been a whole lot of talk about plastic water bottles and their harmful effects. So for months I've been drinking tap water, straight and unfiltered. It only took me a few days to get used to the taste difference. Now I actually prefer it.

What a simple change!

So true, we waste so much energy with our plastic bottles! I am all in support of simply filtering your own tap water and using a reusable bottle when on the go.

There are so many really simple ways we can make a change in our lives and strive to be a bit more eco-friendly. I think some times people get overwhelmed with the idea of "going green" but this post is a good reminder that we can do little things and still make a huge difference.

I love my Pur filter

Strangely enough a former close friend is the director of Government Relations/Community Outreach for Nestle Waters (Poland Spring, Deer Park, Pelligrino, Perrier...) and he had the nerve to chide me for carrying around water in a Nalgene.

Come to think of it, this might be why we're no longer friends. Eh, whatever, there's no need to buy that much bottled water.

I use a Pure

water filter and love it. I fill my own water containers to carry around when I'm out and about. I live in the desert and it's hard to stay hydrated here in hot weather. A portable water bottle that it's safe to wash in the dishwasher is a real plastic-killer.
