I think I'll rent, too, until I found somewhere I could afford to buy and wanted to return to year after year. Perhaps my children and I can find something together.

Good and plenty!

It Must Work on SOMEONE

Or they wouldn't still be doing this, would they? It's stunning, isn't it?

I stopped to chat with one of the guys at a timeshare stand in Hawaii who told me that their presentation was "a fast three hours." What? Huh? Wow! They wanted three hours of our limited travel time to sit and be sold to? I don't think so.

And yes, it does seem incredible that anyone would make that choice on such a short notice. Maybe the business model includes some kind of profit based in the default rate? I can't imagine buying real estate on a snap decision. We took six months to find a house, and even then, the process was full of checkpoints at which we could back out.

We were pretty attracted to the idea of a timeshare for a while, but ultimately decided that if we wanted to do an extended stay somewhere, we'd just rent a place. All those timeshares, they're available as rental units too, and that way we'd have a lot more flexibility. Might cost more on the short run, but on the long run? A better and smarter deal for us, I think.
