Herpes is very widespread

I did some research on herpes just to find out how widespread it really is - and yeah, they say one in four women have it, one in five men. And scarily, 80% of those who have it are asymptomatic and don't know it.

I'm so glad he was upfront about it. But I tell you, it affirms for me more than ever why latex condoms HAVE to be worn when you're out in the dating trenches again.

Still, it kinda sucks that I finally talked to man that I seemed to 'click with' - and he darn well had herpes! But I can't 'settle' for less. I've worked too hard on myself this past year since divorcing to take this kind of chance. So onward ho...he's just another man Delaine.

I think about this all the

I think about this all the time. When I was single I didn't just ask--I demanded to look at documentation before becoming sexually involved. It's a really, really big deal to me. The body is a temple. It's not that uncommon, but that doesn't give us license to be reckless or do things we don't feel comfortable doing.

I'm glad he told you.

Perhaps Dr. Greene helps makes the topic more "parent friendly"

Glad you like the Dr. Greene article. I also think the video is excellent...although the sound quality is not so great at times. Many kids would like to hear another kid ask the tough questions of the experts just like the young girls featured in the video. That said, the young girls in the video are not your average 4 and 6 yr olds. Their parents are the filmmakers. So I'm thinking they have talked about the issues surrounding HIV/AIDS at home prior to the filming at the AIDS Conference in Toronto. Some young kids would probably like and appreciate the video, but others would find it a bit overwhelming just because the topics related to HIV/AIDS have not been discussed at home.

On point

You are absolutely on point with your comments and I thank you for your response. Sorry it took me two days to respond, but I just figured out how to track comments to my posting.

Anyway, I can only imagine that your daughter is a well rounded young woman since she has a mom who truly supports her and provides her with the foundation of self-respect. I am trying to do the same with all of my nieces, adopted little sisters and other young women. Most of them are ages 7-18 and I believe in starting very young! I will definitely visit your blog!

Thank you for your comment!

Sincerely Yours in Health,
Teach Girls Self Respect

I appreciate your blog and am also worried about the welfare of youg women. I believe as well as many tragedies we see among young girls is preventable. I see all the anti-abortion people and have asked many of them what they are doing to help young girls with self esteem so they will not get in this situation, and many have just looked at me like I have horns growing out my ears.
I saddened me that when my daughter was in high school in the years 2002-06 that they still do the most stupid things like, vote for the pretties, most popular etc. Our school systems have not changed since I went to school, and those type programs did nothing for other young women's self esteem.
We are adult women must encourage our young daughters to be happy with themselves and not depend on or give into a man to seek happiness. They must be happy with themselves and respect themselves.
This lack of self respect can carry over into so much in life and lead to problems in adulthood.
Seize the moment and encourage young women they can be whatever they want to be. Encourage other women the same. Many women at any age need that encouragement.
Mentoring other women and young girls has been a big part of my life, see more on my site and blog at www.bikinisandbifocals.com
Thanks for saying you have and helping young girls everywhere.

I am a long time Dr Greene fan

Serious, hard core, fan of Dr Greene and his answer is awesome. Perfect Dr Greene style.

I'm about half way through the video and I don't see anything a 4 year old or 6 year old shouldn't see but I don't think the video works as one for kids because the background noise is too loud. It's difficult to hear and follow because it's filmed at conferences. It's even hard for me to hear and follow and I know an awful lot about HIV/AIDS.
