Thank you for your comment, Ginger. You're right, it does seem to help to put one's memories in writing. It helps to capture them. I learned things about my mom and grandma that I hadn't known, and my blog entry (which I also posted on my home site) was a way to let other family members know about our trip and share.

Thank heavens for Pay per View! Otherwise I would not have even known this film existed. It is a jewel indeed -- and I loved how it didn't just give a Hollywood kissy kissy ending. It is a script that rings true. Thanks for mentioning this movie!!

I'm usually able to exceed the EPA mpg for the Prius by about 8-10 mpg just by driving it easy, so I'll definitely be curious to see what the bottom line in the Tahoe is.

I drive almost 50,000 miles a year. Here's what I carry:
*my AAA card--a gift three years ago, a necessity now that my car has 221,000 miles on it
*a jack and handle
*a fully-inflated donut spare (those things can lose air so it's good to check them occasionally, as I learned the hard way)
*a heavy wool blanket and some large plastic trash bags
*gloves--work ones, not plastic
*rope AND duct tape (how can I be from West Virginia and not carry duct tape?)
*de-icer
* a small tool kit with sockets, pliers, screwdrivers, etc
*road atlas
*an ice-cream bucket of wood ashes--these are absolutely the best for getting you unstuck from snow or ice!
*an old military trencher tool to dig out snow, or to dig up something interesting

In the glovebox:
*extra fuses
*a long magnetic reacher thingie with a light on the end. Very fun, and mighty handy when someone drops a bolt in the wrong place
*handi-wipes
*reading glasses
*matches
*tissues
*ink pen
*cell phone charger
*extra cell phone battery

Under the seat:
*water bottles
*a BIG flashlight that can shed light or be a weapon if needed
(a gift from one of my sons who worries about al the driving I do)
*paper towels

You Gotta Tell Me How You Did It!

Seriously - I got the fear of driving bad, I have a permit that is about to expire. I did to the full set of lessons but the last ones freaked me out.

I need to do it plus I also want to plan out some road trips for the new year. I was thinking about this for a couple of weeks. I want to see the other 49 states and another other place that will have me.
