I would be there for sure, IF I still had my 1970 Chevelle SS396 I would be there. Oh yeah, I'm a gear head. Think Marisa Tomei in "My Cousin Vinny". I love cars in general, but muscle cars are my favorites. This sounds like a great event. SOrry I'm going to miss it.

San Antonio school zones...

Starting Monday, the local police will begin warning drivers that it is illegal to use your cell phone in a school zone. The tickets will begin flying around in October.

So, can I talk on my phone while waiting in line to pick up my kid?

Shouldn't we all be more aware of our conduct in school zones anyhow?

On one hand I'm happy to hear about this type of stuff because it means more people are taking the energy issue seriously and are trying to find solutions. But I don't think hydrogen is the way to go.

Girls and their Cars

Hi,

Yes- I totally agree-cars for women are so much more than simple boxes with engines capable of transporting us from one destination to another. For me (and a host of other women) cars mean freedom- I can get in my motor turn the music up and forget all my everyday worries. I'm by no means a 'girly girl' (I love lifting weights, have a Second Dan Black Belt in Karate, oh, and four academic degrees) but I love to customize my personal space in my motor....Check out www.me-mo.co.uk for a host of ways of dong just this!

Happy Driving!

Thanks for all your great stories and comments.

I get to test drive many new cars and fall in love or get crushes too often on new cars. Guess I am a fickle car lover!

Love my new car

I've never loved a car before Molly, but two weeks ago, as I realized all three of my children could drive and I didn't need the large mom car, I decided to go look for my own ride.

I test drove all of the typical mom cars. Large cars with back seats, all of the typical sedan-style perks in tow I drove every car I could find, none gave me a sense of joy or ownership. On a whim at the Ford Dealership I decided to drive this hot little red 'stang sitting there teasing me on the parking lot!

Thirty minutes later I was madly in love and Molly and I rode home. My hubby was happy that I'd found a hot sports car, my kids were envoius because the old lady had a nicer ride and I feel like a teenager again!

the boob-mobile

to say I love my car is an understatement. it is so an extension of me that anyone that knows me and does not know that it is me has thought of me if they have seen it driving around dc. I am a breastfeeding educator/advocate and my car is the ultimate breastfeeding mobile. I have a magnet with a baby(tastefully!) breastfeeding (only a bf mom would know that devlish little smile is a baby attached), a lactivist sticker, a babies were born to be breastfed campaign sticker, a BF sticker (for breastfeeding mom) and a international breastfeeding sticker in the front windshield. and, because I am, I also have a "Modern Mom" sticker in the front window that looks like a hindu goddess with 6-8 arms juggling a cell phone, a laptop, a baby and other items that moms typically juggle. putting the stickers on makes me feel as though I am expressing myself and I love to get comments (good and respectfully bad) on the road. I love to see people's expressions when they are driving in back of me when they notice what the baby in the magnet is doing. at least they are talking about it. I am not a breastfeeding nightmare and totally respect people's views and personal perspectives but it is what I believe in and advocate and being able to have an extension of that on my car is pretty fun. I should add that my car is actuallyl a truck--- blue FJ Cruiser (2007)

I do love my car

It's not girly or customized, but I love my car and get a great deal of pleasure from the way it performs on the road.

People often say that men see their car as an extension of themselves while women see cars as a tool to get from point A to point B. I disagree.

Thank heavens for Pay per View! Otherwise I would not have even known this film existed. It is a jewel indeed -- and I loved how it didn't just give a Hollywood kissy kissy ending. It is a script that rings true. Thanks for mentioning this movie!!

What If We Concentrated On Developing This Kind Of Technology?

This is the kind of thing we should be focusing on, rather than sinking more money and time into fossil fuels. We have amazing technology already, and if we spent time and money on developing it, rather than always spending it on subsidies for Big Oil, and using it to continue the use of fossil fuels, we could end up with energy that is more efficient, cleaner and safer than what we are using today.

It is a start...though I would like it if the crash test dummies were more average sized women...for example with heavier BREASTS. I know a lot of women who have considerable trouble with properly placing a seatbelt because of breast size/placement.

Also, I would be interested in the pelvic and tailbone testing differences for women. It seems to me these are body parts women seem to get more extensive injuries in than men.

Gas Prices

It's a pity that Kenny buried his message in foamy rhetoric, but there's some truth, I think, to the fact that China and India have created increasing demand for fuel and it's being diverted to their markets. Though one can't help but wonder - how much is a gallon of gas in Beijing? Or Bangalore?

Also surprisingly absent from this commentary, um, don't we have a war destablilizing the region where most of our fuel comes from? Or have we really forgotten that? The other thing I don't understand is why, if we have a war, we have heard so little call for conservation. I find that maddening.

Driving while using my Cell Phone

Yes, I am guilty of using my cell phone while driving. I justify it in my mind that I live in the country and there is little or no traffic on the road when I am using my phone. But, I will admitt that looking up a number or even dialing a number can be tricky and I have almost gone into the ditch on the side of the road a couple of times.

I think this law would be good. If it wasn't for the "Click it or Ticket" law, I would not use my seatbelt everytime I am in a car. I guess I need a "No hands or Handcuffs" to force me to get a bluetooth a stay safe.
