socrates

Hello again, Cooper,

I am puzzled by your comment here. I said nothing about bussing or tragedy or the courts or a roundtable. Are you confusing me with someone else?

Since, however, you wrote of a garbled or incomplete video, I am posting again the link to the video that Obama's camp was trying to force TV stations to remove. It's at the BOTTOM of the page. You might want to look at it (again?)

By all means, feel free to visit my blog at http://www.thenationalintelligence.com

Obama, ACORN, and voter fraud

socrates Good evening, Cooper,

I would be quite surprised if Lynette Long were not a member of PUMA. You note that the objections to Obama's tactics were coming from the Hillary camp.

Obviously you don't care for Hillary, and that is your choice. I trust you would agree, however, that she and her supporters had a right to a fair electoral process both in the primaries and the caucuses. They were entitled to not having ballot boxes stuffed. Not having voters brought in from out of state. Not having "voters" registered multiple times. Not having Obama thugs intimidating Clinton supporters.

Please note that Ms. Long was NOT the only person raising objection to the Obama / ACORN fraudulent and aggressive tactics. If you will reference back to the original story, you will find about a dozen other persons who have voiced concerns.

We ALL need to worry about the infusion of such criminal practices into our democratic electoral process. AND now it is coming out that Obama paid ACORN and its subsidiary CIS $832,598 for their assistance during the Democratic primaries and caucuses. Yes, ma'am, check that out at the Federal Election Commission.

Why not seeing competency as good?

For me this is NOT about language but about how little we are used to appreciate quality in our life.

Obama has obviously taken care to gain competency in language which is maybe his talent and why not if you take on a job like that.

He has become a rare breed obvioulsy.
Mostly we go for quantity and that is with skills as well.
I notice it with myself, I am impatient when learning and I want to move on quickly, never mind learning things properly. Sometimes that is okay and sometimes I could do with taking care of bettering my skills and thus obtaining better results in an area I have a talent in.

I think skills and competencies have lost their value somewhere in our haste to get things quickly and fast, like food, education and skills and competencies are amongst those.

Thus we might have lost our appreciation for someone who has taken care to gain competency in a certain skill.

We admire competent musicians, why not admire competent language users and see them as role models.

Of course in the past language was related to class as we normal mortals didn't have access to learning or using those language skills. Now time has changed and we can learn most skills to whatever level we like.
Why not observe skilled people and see if we want to reach that competency as well instead of spreading ourselves so thinly and make do with mediocre skills.

These days we can choose competency in nearly any field and let's observe people's competencies without making it wrong.

It's not about vocabulary

Being Canadian, I don't follow or know enough to comment on the US election. But the issue of elitism and condescension is about more than vocabulary. You don't need an education to be able to read people. In my region, most are not educated beyond high school, are not well read, and don't use "them fancy words." But it is always a mistake to underestimate their intelligence - they can always tell if you do. A literate, articulate person should be able to maintain good breeding and STILL demonstrate an attitude of respect for all people - and the people they are dealing with will recognize the truth of whether they are respected or condescended to.

Elitism is about more than maintaining a high standard - an attitude of elitism excludes anything less than the best. Not the right approach to people.

Interesting questions

It's a bit of a touchy issue with me. I'm a native West Virginian who lost most of my accent long ago. And when I'm back home, I'm frequently accused of "talking prissy." This criticism has been going on for 20 years.

The reason: To speak without a twang, using words with more than one syllable, is considered "above your raisings." The unspoken undercurrent is that you think you're "better than everyone else" because you have an education. You've risen "above your station" and that threatens people.

I think the same thing is going on when Barack Obama is criticized as being elitist and, yes, I think it's because he's black.

Funny thing is, when John McCain dumbs it down, appealing to "my friends" and talking about Joe the Plumber, I think that comes off as condescending. And phony.

Personally, I'll be thrilled if my sons grow up to be "elitist" like Barack Obama. He's intelligent, he's articulate, he's passionate, he's a leader. All good things in my book even if he does "use all those fancy words."

a tragic reality check

The assassin ation attempt was part of a larger planned spree, accoring to the news this morning -- which would have left over 100 dead.

The Southern Poverty law Center has this to say (and more)One of the suspects, Cowart, is a known member of a new skinhead hate group, the Supreme White Alliance (SWA), formed at the beginning of 2008, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. He attended a Hitler’s Birthday party held last April by the group.SWA is headed by Steven Edwards, son of Ron Edwards, who leads the Imperial Klans of America.

You raise an excellent point about how we usually judge without noticing. The dynamics of racism are both deliberate and assumptive -- some people say things deliberately to fan the hidden flames, and others just assume that what they say is acceptable. In any case, it is a complex thing, and worthy of calling up into the light for fair and healing discussion.

As you so accurately say -- -it's about healing.

hopelessness?

I take your point that there has been a focus (as in a few articles) on race. I think that is a good thing. For me, I take great hope in the fact that we ARE discussing the issue, as opposed to letting it be the rhino in the livingroom that no one talks about but that everyone knows is there.

Thanks for mentioning the diversity at the Obama rallies. It is true. And it is good.

finally some diversity at blogher

I have noticed the focus of race in many of boghers blogs as well.

If you look you will find negatives in any campaign, thats politics.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but I see diversity at Obama rally's.

It's beautiful and needs a little more recognition.

For a campaign based on hope I see a lot of focus on hopelessness.

i've since found this posted

i've since found this posted on Drudge and reading authorative, non panic stricked conservatives comments it's clear that there is no panic here.

Just a small part of a very incomplete audio video which is not fully represented.

No just to listen to it. He refers to an example of bussing as 'wealth redistribution' - he is talking about the courts mandating anything that 'costs' by the court itself. And throughout the program he talks about how this just doesn't happen often and when it does its is limited, forced and unstable.

The propaganda video in the link misrepresents his use of the word 'tragedy' associated with the 'tragic' focus of the civil rights movement on court action as referring to the lack of court action. Later in the program a caller asks why there was this 'tragic' lack of community organization and Senator Obama replies because community organizing is hard.

Make no mistake this radio roundtable is being misrepresented - of course this isn't shocking but it is that people don't recoil from sources that lie to them in this manner.

Here is a good analysis at The Daily Dish

You just can't make Obama's words say what Drudge's headline makes
them say. I am not giving him a pass on functional illiteracy.

I am wondering

Is this the same Lynette Long who is a psychologist in Betheda MD? They PUMA LADY?

This is the "study" she is referring to isn't it

I have taken several grad courses at this point in analytics and research and this is not a study.

Very simlar information has been availble via media for some time.

What so many don't understand, or ignore, is the fact that there was a very large faction of the Democratic party which did not want any part of the Clinton machine. As soon as Iowa went to Obama and it became clear he could win they started abandoning her. All is not what it seems. This is something the party really took into their own hands. The party in the people who really make those decsions - the people who always control the parties in this counry, those with the money.

The melodrama from people who seem not to understand how this system works is beginning to border on histrionics - if not hysteriia.
