I am a libra. I am struggling because I do like everything JUST so. But, I'm not a retail therapy kinda girl.

You got me back again though with the rainbow thing. Darn right - where there's a Libra, there's a rainbow.

I lost my sister August 3,

I lost my sister August 3, 2008, the one week anniversary has already passed and in 2 days it will be 2 weeks. I am already dreading it, I cannot imagine 5 years at this point. She sewed a lot so I am thinking of getting out a quilt I never finished and work on it this weekend to pass the time. They say it gets easier, I dunno I have had 2 days of no tears since she left, today was not one of them.

I'm saving this to read again - and think about. Probably won't DO anything because procrastination is my middle name. heh.

Good travels to you!

I pray for smooth traveling for you on this long journey. I am traveling to Kazakhstan on June 20th to help install some bathrooms in orphanages. Right now, they are having to take two trips into town to use the bathroom. I agree with what you said, it is extremely hard to take artistic risk when you are consumed by the fact that your life may be at risk at any given moment.

However, when left with only chaos humanity can demonstrate a brilliant process of creation. I find that our greatest amount of creativity comes from the greatest amount of limitations.

Love,

If you could see it now

Jen, Thank you so much for mentioning my studio space. If you could just see it now ... it is more a junk dump ... I should post a new photo while I am cleaning up the mess. Like all of us ... work and life gets in the way and I get off-task at keeping my table cleared of all things precious that I can't t allow myself to throw away. It is a double sided sword, the act of collecting that makes me the crazy creative artist and then trying to keep the space usable! a never ending battle. ;)

we could be studio twins! at least your papers are on the desk. mine are all over the floor! :) i think it would be great to write about how decluttering creative space is necessary to really get your juices flowing again. i'll have to find a good post on that one and pass it back your way this time, deb! ;)

Don't really want to see that photos!

When I'm working, my studio looks like some great cotton-chomping monster went on an all-night binge then vomited her excess all over my room. Which you can see in this photo from a virtual retreat last year. NOT a pretty picture, nor particularly inspiring.

The mess in there actually drives me out of the studio and away from work. I know that. I'm dedicating a couple hours every week to bringing a calmer and more inspired feeling there. My new goal: I want to WANT my studio pictures on On My Desk.

Great post, Jen...

I remember seeing a photo of Anne Lamott's (one of my fave writers) creative space a couple of years ago and thinking...gee, it's not all that impressive...just a desk and a computer and a window and a little clutter...

That's when it hit me: it's not the THINGS in our space that give us juice and creative mojo...it's in the ACT OF CLAIMING THE SPACE. IMHO anyway. ;)
