Respect isn't a given.

I realize this is incredibly outdated, but the first thing that struck me is that most comments are from women saying more or less what you'd expect about women getting screwed in a man's world (I don't meant that as offensive, just to summarize generally what I've read). There is a very basic thing here that nobody ever seems to pick up on Palin. People only paint her as a victim because she is a woman. If everything else stayed the same, but she were just a man instead, favourable opinion of her would be even LOWER. Call it sexist, call it biology, but men resect pretty women more.

But men also understand that respect is earned, not a given. There is the basic repect for fellow Man (as in human, not just men) but when someone has power who shouldn't and is making a move for more power, they will be torn down. Women have this assumption that men just tear down women because their women. False. Men are even more vicious to other men. Only growing up, men have become accustomed to it. Girls, on the other hand, who are considered sacred are sheltered from criticism growing up and are unprepared for it.

Basic fact about Palin, I find her annoying with that constant goofy smile, her annoying accent, constant reference to herself as a "Maverick" and acting like she's some revolutionary changing the political world. But listen to ANY interview with her. She can't answer simple questions and ANY criticism of her that is read back to her is the fault of the person commenting on her. She attempts to discredit the person to discredit the argument.

It isn't about her being a woman in a man's world (that whole idea makes me want to vomit, how bad women have it. but sorry, thats for another day.) its about her being an idiot in a world that needs better. Hilary isn't better because she's a liberal, but because she's intelligent and articulate.

Thanks Sara

I think there are real facts of the matter (that is, that there are real, genuine reasons someone might oppose gay marraige), but no one wants to say, explicitly, what they are because they know they sound alarming to most people. So they use code, and they try to justify policy based on their genuine reasons without letting people know what those genuine reasons are.

If we could have a policy discussion based on the reasons for the policy and not on the justifications for it we'd all see much more clearly what is going into the makeup of a society.

Thanks for noticing :)

I'm feeling grateful today for the feeling I have about my country. And the crying, cheering diversity of faces in the celebratory crowds leave hopeful for our future.

Thanks for your comment and hooray to you!

That can be a tough thing to

That can be a tough thing to accomplish in politics, where party loyalty is often regarded as the greatest virtue and self-serving ambition is exceedingly common,

Jane Swift oughta know about this. In the name of party loyalty, she stepped aside to let the self-serving ambition of Mitt Romney run for governor instead of her.

Too bad, I had hoped to support her run back then. I was sorry to hear Swift defending Sarah Palin's politics earlier in this race. The bitter divisiveness Palin has sown hardly puts country first.

Yes, 26 years in

Yes, 26 years in the Senate.... compared to Obama's 2 years? Hands down, McCain has more experience to be President. Where was Obama 3 years ago? Not in the Senate!

Putting Country First...

Houseonahill

www.Houseonahillorg.blogspot.com

would mean being a maverick for justice. Calling a collegue "That One" on national television during a presidential debate and suggesting that being a Muslim in America is somehow scary, or "risky" ALL while claiming to put your country first, really suggests putting Party first.

A McCain/Palin presidency will do nothing for women, workers, men of color, non-Christians, and our global community connections. That leaves who?

So then that brings about my final remark, define "country"??

~ House

It's refreshing to hear support of McCain coming from other woman-owned businesses. I think that you've nailed it with your post -- $250,000 in profit is not an insane amount of money for a small business to earn, especially in rural America where family farms are on the decline. Thanks for helping to encourage free market advantages by giving the facts about McCain's plans!

Sad to see

That someone who was elected to represent people of every political persuasion would imply that voters who support a different candidate than she are not putting their country first.

I'm putting my country first by voting. Period.

Voter suppression efforts are the thing that worry me the most. I certainly hope that you are right and efforts underway fail.

And, how exciting to be with your family and to witness your daughter's enthusiasm. Though it's become a bit of a cliche, children really are the future and they give me such hope especially with this election.

Voting by fax

You are overseas - is that right, Judith? How fascinating that you can vote by fax. And, I wish 100% of those eligible would make the effort you've made to exercise your right. Thank you.

Nice to see reasons.

Not to mention he didn't vote even once from the time he won the nomination in April until the bail-out vote in October where he made a show of it. At least Obama voted 40 times or so in that time period. That was my grandmother's deciding factor.

The vets I see at the mission here, the mission we work with as a partnership with the women's shelter don't see it that way either so I believe there are many ways to look at and interepret the country first mantra.

But it's nice to see you have reasons for your vote.

Ugh...the very title of this

Ugh...the very title of this post is an insult...putting country first...yeah, yeah, yeah...only conservatives put their country first. Is anyone else tired of this bit already?

John McCain has had 26 years in the Senate to do a little bit of nothing and NOW we are supposed to believe he will unleash the Maverick? LOLOLOL.

And Kelly...McCain has the WORST voting record in the Senate. He has missed 64.1% of the votes.

Informed voting...

Though I don't necessarily agree with your choice, I think that it is refreshing that you have reasoning behind your decision. I respect that way more than people I have met that are voting based on race or 1 issue at the expense of all else.
